Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Chapter 786

But that simply wasn't enough, not by a long shot!

He glanced up at the apartment above; they had gone up together! Sherilyn actually let Galen inside! Were things progressing that quickly between them? How long would Galen stay? Could it be, overnight? Sherilyn's place was so small, where would he sleep? No way, with Sherilyn? Impossible!

Just the thought of Sherilyn in another man's arms drove him crazy! What could he do? Should he storm up there right now? But would Sherilyn even open the door for him? Besides, he was in a foul mood, afraid he might do something rash! Sherilyn and Jenna were both there; what if he scared them?

Opening his car door, Gilbert took out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from the glove compartment, lighting one after another, chain-smoking. One hour, he'd give it one hour at most. If that guy didn't come down, he'd go up!

However, it didn't take an hour. Galen came down. He had come mainly to check on Sherilyn's injuries, but now he had to head back as Yuna was causing a stir at home. He hadn't expected Gilbert to still be around.

"Still here, huh?" Galen smirked with a mocking tone. "Playing the lovelorn fool?"

"Galen!" Gilbert was on the verge of exploding, grabbing Galen by the arm, his eyes nearly popping out. "Stay away from her! Someone as fickle as you doesn't deserve her!"

"I don't deserve her?" Galen was unafraid, "And who does? You? Oh..." Before Gilbert could react, Galen had a realization, "Or is it that only someone harboring a secret crush deserves her?"

"What did you say?" Gilbert was shocked, his gaze narrowing.

"You know exactly what I'm talking about!" Galen broke free, grabbing Gilbert's shirt, teeth clenched, "Gilbert, stop pretending to be a love saint!" "You've known her for ten years, if you really liked her... then tell me, who's her father? Does she have any relatives left in Sunhaven?"

What kind of questions were these? Gilbert was baffled, "She's not an orphan...?"

"Hmph!" Galen scoffed, releasing

him, "You don't deserve her! Get lost!

From now on, I'll protect her!" With

that he got into his car and sped away.

Gilbert stood there dazed, pondering the recent exchange. Was Sherilyn not an orphan? Hadn't grandma said her parents died when she was young? And that her grandmother passed away when she was fifteen? That's why she was taken in by the Johnson family? But Galen's demeanor didn't seem like he was making things up. On the contrary, he seemed to know some secrets.

Rubbing his forehead, Gilbert picked up his phone and called Francis.

"Gilbert."

"Big brother." Gilbert didn't beat around the bush, "Could you ask grandma if Sherilyn really doesn't have any relatives left in this world?" "What do you mean?" Francis was surprised; he, like Gilbert, had thought Sherilyn was an orphan.

"Big brother," Gilbert spoke softly, "I suspect Sherilyn isn't an orphan. She might still have relatives in Sunhaven."

"Alright, I'll find a way to ask grandma." Francis always took his brother's concerns seriously. If Gilbert said so, there must be a basis for it. "Big brother, I'll wait for your news."

"Okay."

After hanging up, Gilbert looked up at the apartment again. Why? How come Galen knew something he didn't? Did Sherilyn tell Galen, or was there a deeper, more intimate relationship between them?
