Whispers Turn to Whimpers: Could He Ever Change?

Chapter 785

"J..."

Galen's voice caught, the word 'sister' stuck in his throat, unspoken, as he watched Gilbert stride forward, positioning himself protectively in front of Sherilyn.

His eyes, dark and intense, glared at Galen with unrestrained fury.

"What are you doing here?"

"Uh?" Galen glanced at Sherilyn, then chuckled, "What's it to you?"

"I'm warning you, stay away!"Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

Gilbert's disdain for Galen's carefree demeanor only fueled his anger further.

"Because of you, Sherilyn ended up in the ER, bleeding from a head wound! Haven't you caused enough harm?"

At this, Galen frowned, "That's between her and me. I'm just here to check on her."

Yuna had called him earlier, frantic with worry!

Only then did Galen learn about today's turmoil.

Ignoring Yuna, he had rushed over to see Sherilyn.

"And you think she needs your 'concern'?"

Gilbert shielded Sherilyn completely, "As long as I'm here, you won't get near her!"

"Oh?"

Galen stopped, raising an eyebrow in mockery, "Mr. Johnson, what gives you the right to stop me? You're just an ex-husband with no standing! She has nothing to do with you now!"

That struck a nerve with Gilbert!

Gilbert's body tensed, his fists clenching tightly.

"Gilbert!"

Sherilyn, sensing trouble, quickly grabbed Gilbert's arm, "Don't do anything rash!"

"Huh?"

Surprise flickered in Gilbert's eyes, "You think I'm going to hit him?"

"Don't start a fight!"

Sherilyn blurted out without thinking.

She had witnessed his temper firsthand.

"Have I hit him?"

A pained smile crossed Gilbert's lips, "Even if I wanted to hit him! Would you stop me?"

"Yes!" Sherilyn stood her ground, her response firm.

"Sherilyn?" Gilbert couldn't believe it, "After all he's done to you..."

"That's between him and me!" Sherilyn pleaded, genuinely afraid he might lash out, "I'll handle it!"

She signaled to Galen with her eyes, "Galen, go inside first!"

"Alright, I'll wait for you upstairs."

Galen smirked, throwing a challenging glance at Gilbert before heading into the building.

Throughout, Sherilyn held onto Gilbert's arm tightly, watching him warily.

"Ha, ha."

Gilbert suddenly laughed, a sound dry and hollow. Looking at Sherilyn, he shook his head, "Let go. I won't touch him."

Her defending that pretty boy like this, what would his acting out change?

Sherilyn, still doubtful, glanced back several times, estimating Galen had entered the elevator before she let go. "I... I'm going in too. You should leave."

She turned away.

One step, then another.

"Sherilyn!"

From behind, Gilbert's voice sharply called out, "You might not like me, and I can't force you! But at least, can't you spare me the worry? Show me you're okay! Choose a decent man please? I'm begging you, Sherilyn! Please!"

Facing away, Sherilyn's posture stiffened.
