Chapter 977: Out of Place
“Just keep your mouth shut and try not to talk,” Verda said.
Xander nodded, “Like a mute.”
He leaned in, “If I were mute, would your parents not approve of me?”
Verda snorted, raised her eyes to look at him, their gaze colliding, “Why, do you really want my parents to like you?”
Xander awkwardly cleared his throat, “No, no, just asking.”
Verda said, “I’ve never been taken advantage of by a man before, you’re the first.”
With that, she stepped on the gas pedal forcefully.
Suddenly accelerating, Xander was caught off guard, his body leaning back, eyes wide with shock.
He looked at Verda, “Why are you driving so fast?”
Verda ignored him, only increasing the speed.
Xander grabbed the handle above the car window tightly, “I haven’t done anything to you, why make me suffer? Are you trying to murder me?”
Verda frowned, “Shut up.”
Xander blinked and asked, “I came to help you, if I helped wrong… slow down!”
A SUV in front of them, her car almost collided with it, scaring Xander into silence, he didn’t say another word.
This woman is not only unruly but also reckless.
He wants to live a few more years, so he can’t provoke this woman. He’ll just help her honestly and then leave.
The car raced all the way to Verda’s mansion and stopped.
Verda turned to him, “If my parents ask you if we’re friends, just say yes.”
Xander hesitated before answering, “I shouldn’t have agreed to this, no gratitude at all.”
“It’s too late for you to say anything now,” Verda pushed open the car door and got out.
She instructed him once again, “Act like a mute, try to speak as little as possible.”
Xander nodded.
“Come on,” she urged.
Verda’s parents were anxiously waiting for them and immediately greeted them as the car pulled up.
Xander unbuckled his seatbelt, pushed open the car door, and got out.
“You’re here?” Otis smiled, his eyes crinkling, the wrinkles at the corners of his eyes deepening.
Hannah also warmly said, “Quick, come inside, it’s hot outside, isn’t it?”
Xander, “…”
This… is too warm?
He could hardly believe the scene in front of him.
And he never expected Verda’s parents to be like this.
Verda is so difficult, he thought her parents would be equally hard to get along with.
However, it was the opposite, overwhelmingly hospitable.
He felt uneasy and just wanted to help her and leave as soon as possible.
“Please come in quickly,” Otis and mother flanked him, fearing that he might run away.
“Marry, go and brew my best tea, bring it over,” Otis said.Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
Xander, “…”
He looked back at Verda for help.
Verda turned her head away, pretending not to notice.
“Sit down,” Verda’s parents led Xander to the sofa.
Xander sat down.
Hannah looked him over, his height, appearance, all quite good, and most importantly, he had abilities. This is the kind of son-in-law Verda’s family needs.
She nodded repeatedly, “Not bad.”
Otis leaned in to look at Xander, “I’ve heard about you before, but I never thought we would have such a connection.”
Xander, sticking to his principle of speaking less, just smiled.
Although he was puzzled, how did they know him?
But he had only recently come to F country with the company, and had previously been in the country, so it wasn’t surprising that Otis, also a businessman, knew him.
“Our Verda, we spoiled her, despite her wilful nature, she has a kind heart.” Otis spoke for his daughter while continuing to size up Xander. He seemed satisfied with Xander’s appearance and abilities.
From appearance to abilities.
Otis smiled broadly, “As long as you marry Verda, I guarantee you, she will never be wilful or playful again.”
Xander pursed his lips.
Verda rolled her eyes to the heavens.
“Hey, is she your daughter or am I your son?”
“How can a daughter have a son-in-law?” Otis and mother almost said in unison.
They knew their daughter, who is not good at anything, only knows how to play.
Therefore, they wanted to find a good son-in-law.
Knowing that in the future, Verda’s family will rely on the son-in-law.
So, the daughter… needs to lean on him, they can’t let such a good son-in-law slip away.
Xander received such enthusiastic hospitality for the first time, and he was really not used to it.
Verda, “…”
Verda propped up her forehead.
Hannah asked, “What do you like to eat? I’ll have someone cook it, stay for lunch at home.”
Xander looked at Verda, as if to say, he didn’t say he wanted to eat.
Verda couldn’t stand her parents’ excessive enthusiasm.
It made her seem like nobody wanted her.
She got up and pulled Xander away from the old couple, “Mom, dad, he’s my boyfriend. How can I build a relationship with him if you keep him busy talking to you?”
Hannah and father suddenly understood.
“Yes, yes,” Otis smiled, “I didn’t think it through. You young people must need your own space. Go on, go upstairs.”
Otis instructed his daughter, “Take the future son-in-law around our house, and show him your room.”
Verda, “…”
Oh my god…
Do parents like this exist?
Are they worried she won’t find a husband?
This is really making her lose face in front of Xander.
“I’m definitely not your biological child, Xander is,” Verda protested.
“You’re not wrong, a son-in-law is like half of a son, the same as my biological son,” Otis said.
Verda, “…”
Xander, “…”
Verda couldn’t stand to stay downstairs any longer. She didn’t know what else her parents could say that was so out of place. She dragged Xander upstairs.
Once in the room, Xander immediately asked, “Your parents seem to really like me?”
Verda scowled.
Seeing Verda unhappy, Xander added, “Their warmth made me think you were unwanted, and they wanted to push you off to any man they saw.”
Verda’s cheeks puffed up in anger, her face turning red.
In this state, she looked adorable, like a hamster.
Xander intentionally mimicked her, puffing his cheeks.
“You’re so annoying,” Verda was so angry, she raised her hand, about to hit him, but Xander caught her wrist, pulling her into his arms in one smooth motion.
Unprepared, Verda fell onto his lap.
She stared wide-eyed in shock.
This position is too intimate!
Soon Verda realized, she quickly tried to stand up, but Xander held her to stop her, leaning into her ear and whispering, “Look at the gap under the door.”
His warm breath fell on her neck as he spoke, tingling and tickling. She inexplicably felt a dry mouth and a warm face.
“Is it your parents?”
Verda’s heart was pounding violently!
She turned to look at the door, trying to cover up her momentary panic with her actions.
There was clearly a shadow under the door.
Verda could tell with just her toe that it was definitely her parents.
She whispered to Xander, “My parents are pressuring me to get married. They are well-mannered people, but they seem out of place when it comes to my affairs. Please don’t mind them.”
