Chapter 193
Asher was furious, his hand flew up and landed a slap across Lemira's face.
"Lemira, you got the guts to say that again?"Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
The side of Lemira's face was ablaze with pain. She licked the corner of her mouth, a storm brewing within her, utterly fed up.
She thought by distancing herself from the Langstons, she could start fresh. After all, she wasn't that significant in the Langstons' eyes.
But Lemira hadn't anticipated the Langstons' persistent haunting! Her disdain reached its pinnacle!
Evelina, feigning concern, stepped in to calm Asher, "Asher, don't be mad. Lemmy's not without merit; can't say she doesn't have contributed. It's all my fault."
Lemira slapped Evelina on her face with all her might. Evelina, nearly losing her balance from the impact, wore a look of shock. She couldn't believe Lemira had actually hit her!
Covering her face which tingled with burning pain, the fake angel screamed at Lemira, "Are you crazy? You dare to hit me!"
Lemira was unperturbed, "Didn't you say that it's all your fault, that it's all because of you? In that case, slapping you won't be out of line, right?"
"Pretending to be a fricking angel, huh? How about now!" Lemira thought to herself.
Evelina was at a loss for words, her earlier admission merely lip service, not an actual acceptance of guilt.
Evelina's eyes reddened swiftly as she looked up at Asher, "Asher, if hitting me makes Lemmy feel better, then I won't hold a grudge."
Asher immediately shielded Evelina with his body, "Lemira, you're really crossing the line. Just because you've done a bit for the Langstons, does that give you the right to lord over us?" Lucian chimed in, "Asher, Lemmy's telling the truth."
"Ridiculous! Without the Langstons, would you have achieved such excellence, Lemira?"
Asher dismissed Lemira's defense as sheer audacity, especially since she had resorted to violence.
At that moment, a group approached the hospital room, "We're here to investigate the allegations of cheating."
Asher nodded at his bodyguards to let the investigators in.
He turned back to Lemira, "Now that the investigators are here, let's see how tough you talk now. When you were cheating, did you ever consider that becoming the top student might raise suspicions? Foolish!"
Evelina, pretending to be understanding, said, "Asher, maybe Lemmy just wanted our approval so badly she took a desperate measure."
Asher scoffed, "Lemira, if you apologize and repent now, I might let you stay with the Langstons."
After all, she was his sister, and regardless of her worth, she was a Langston. A roof over her head was the least he could do!
Lemira coldly responded, "I have no desire to stay with the Langstons."
"Do you think, after being punished, with just a high school diploma, that school doctor will still want you? Once I kick you out and he finds out you're not Ms. Langston anymore, will he still care for you the same? Wake up, no one is kind to you without reason!"
Asher was furious, feeling as if his only sister had been led astray by some outsider, even resorting to cheating.
He had never demanded his siblings excel academically, just that they avoid trouble and crime.
Lemira let out a half-smile, "You're so sure I cheated before the investigation comes to a result? Can't you hope for the best for me?"
"Do I not know your character?"
The impatience in Asher's eyes was palpable.
Alaric stepped forward to explain, "Asher, there were suspicions of her cheating during the monthly test, but I saw her complete the paperon her own, scoring highly."
