Chapter 330 You Like Me the Most

Josephine paused in her tracks before turning to look at Conrad.

The latter said, “You must have understood what the doctor said just now, so please look after Chairman Alvarez no matter what. Don’t let him get discharged from the hospital.”

He felt that no one was as effective as Josephine when it came to convincing Lewis.

That man would only stay in the hospital and recuperate as long as she was the one taking care of him.

Josephine was silent for a moment before nodding in response. It was an indicator that she would take good care of Lewis.

After all, he did get badly hurt because of her. The young woman still vividly remembered the memory of him dying on the cruise ship. She didn’t want something like that to happen ever again.

This time, she would take good care of Lewis.

Upon noticing the determination shining in Josephine’s eyes, Conrad let out a breath of relief.

Whatever he said paled in comparison to her gaze, after all.

If Lewis refused to listen to reason, his heart would definitely soften upon seeing Josephine’s tears. Conrad was very sure of that.

Meanwhile, Josephine arrived at Lewis’ ward. He had yet to wake up at that time.

The man’s complexion was paler than the time he spent on the island, thanks to the glow from the white fluorescent light. Josephine could barely see any trace of color on his cheeks.

His eyes remained closed, and his long, slender arms lay neatly at his sides. At that moment, he looked even more peaceful than when he was asleep.

Josephine couldn’t shake off the memory of that moment on the deck, where Lewis was covered in blood and remained unresponsive no matter how hard she tried to wake him up.

She even dreamed of that scene lately.

The young woman had never encountered such a harrowing experience of life and death before. In that scene, Lewis seemed so distant that if she were to let go of him, she would never see him again.

Josephine sat by the man’s bed and held his hand, which didn’t have an IV drip hooked to it. She just kept staring at him the entire time.

Even though she hadn’t slept for the past 24 hours, she didn’t feel sleepy at all.

The young woman reached out to brush away the messy locks plastered on Lewis’ forehead.

Suddenly, she heard a series of footsteps echoing from outside the ward.

Surprised, Josephine reflexively turned around to see Sierra.

The latter’s gaze was fixed on Lewis for a very long time before she finally turned to look at Josephine.

Josephine’s grip tightened around the man’s hand unconsciously.

Sierra did drop by several times when Josephine and Conrad were waiting outside the operating room. However, the assistant was able to steer her away with a few words.

The older woman stated, “Come out. I have something to tell you.”

Josephine thought for a moment, soon deciding to comply with Sierra’s order as she didn’t want to disturb Lewis’ rest.

The corridor was very silent. The sterile, cold light illuminated the women who stood there, casting a pale glow on their faces.

Sierra sized Josephine up, an inquisitive glint in her eyes.

The latter felt quite uneasy, which resulted in a displeased frown appearing on her face.

A while later, Sierra finally spoke up. “What do you really want, Josephine?”

The young woman didn’t understand what Sierra was talking about, so she could only gaze at

her in confusion.

Still, the latter chortled in response. “Stop acting innocent! I’ve finally come to understand that I underestimated you in the past! I never thought that you were this manipulative and cunning! Did you really think you could latch onto Lewis by acting innocent in front of him and gaining his sympathy?”

Josephine was slightly angry after hearing Sierra’s condescending remarks. She clenched her fists tightly and shook her head.

The latter retorted, “That’s enough! Stop pretending! I’ve seen through your disguise!”

She approached Josephine with deliberate steps, coming to a halt right in front of her. Her eyes, filled with a chilling mix of malice and cruelty, locked onto Josephine’s, piercing through

her with an intense gaze.

“You’re able to entice and toy with those men with these eyes of yours. How atrocious.”

When Sierra spat those remarks out, Josephine felt as though the former wanted to dig her eyes out on the spot, sending chills up her spine.

The more Sierra stared at Josephine, the angrier she became..

It seemed that the mute wasn’t satisfied with just Lewis. She went on to seduce Quintin and Seth as well. Now, she even became the catalyst for the conflict between Kiran and Lewis,

driving them to confront each other openly.

That woman was truly a jinx.

Josephine Vance was just a mute who didn’t know how to speak. Why did she hold so much power over those men?

Meanwhile, Josephine’s patience was running thin because she had spent quite a long time listening to Sierra’s yapping. She no longer wanted to entertain that crazy woman. All she

wanted to do was take care of Lewis.

Hence, the young woman took the opportunity to enter Lewis’ ward and closed the door before locking it, all while Sierra was still mocking her.

The latter didn’t realize that the damned mute had the gall to ignore her and leave. As a result, Sierra stomped a few times on the spot while feeling very irritated.

To make things worse, Josephine even locked the door.

What the heck was that mute up to?

Was this her way of saying that Sierra was forbidden from visiting Lewis?

How could she do this to her?

Naturally, Sierra didn’t dare to yell at Josephine, fearing that Lewis might witness everything

when he woke up later.

She only had the guts to cause trouble for Josephine when he was unconscious.

It was clear to Sierra that Lewis’ attitude toward her was completely different from how he

had treated her in the past.

The woman was very dissatisfied, to say the least. It was her first time feeling so resentful.

Compared to when Lewis had broken up with Sierra, she was even more resentful of the fact that the man was now very protective of Josephine.

She reached into her pocket once again to feel the pin. Then, she tightened her grip around it.

After that, Sierra fixed her gaze on the door unblinkingly. She stayed there for a very long time before turning on her heel and leaving the hospital.

Meanwhile, Josephine stayed by Lewis’ side the whole time.

It was already midnight when the fireworks began to bloom in the sky. The sounds were muffled, yet Josephine could hear them distinctly in the silent ward.

She held Lewis’ hand while watching the beautiful fireworks outside the window. Sometime

later, she ended up falling asleep.

When Lewis woke up, he turned his head to see Josephine hunched over his bed with her face buried in her arms. Her long hair draped around her messily, covering her face.

The man attempted to wiggle his fingers, but Josephine gripped them tightly. After trying a few more times to free his fingers, he decided to give up.

Even though Josephine’s memory had deteriorated a lot, her personality took on a stubborn and ferocious edge instead.

The reason still resided within Lewis. The more he loved Josephine, the more unruly she would become. She would do whatever she wanted without fearing the repercussions because she had him to back her up.

However, if Lewis were to ignore and be cold to her, the young woman would suppress her unruly side and curl into a small ball in the corner.

Josephine couldn’t sleep well.

She had many strange dreams. Sometimes, she dreamed of Sierra, and other times, Lewis- like right now.

She dreamed that Lewis and Sierra were madly in love with each other and wouldn’t leave each other no matter what.

In that dream, Lewis chased Josephine away and stopped providing her with protection. All she could do was hide in a quiet corner while watching the couple being lovey-dovey with each other.

Everything in that dream felt too realistic, vivid, and suffocating.

The endless darkness swallowed Josephine up, making her stumble backward immediately. Suddenly, she felt the ground disappearing beneath her feet before she started to lose her balance.

Just before she could fall, Josephine woke up.

“Josephine.”

The young woman slowly lifted her head upon hearing Lewis’ voice.

All she saw was the man’s blurry visage, so she raised a hand to wipe her tears away. It was then she realized her sleeve was completely wet.

Lewis had already sat up by then. He happened to be gazing at her while leaning against the headboard.

“Did you have a nightmare?”.

Josephine nodded in response, feeling the emotions from the dream swirling in her heart. Tears started spilling from her eyes uncontrollably once again. She could never stem those tears, no matter how much she wiped them away.

“What did you dream about?”

Josephine raised her hands to gesture back. “I dreamt that you and that woman bullied me.”

Lewis paused in his actions.

“Who’s the woman?”

“Sierra.”

Lewis stared at the young woman silently, the emotions in his gaze constantly shifting.

Josephine gripped his hand while rubbing her cheek against his palm. A layer of calluses coated his fingers, so his hand wasn’t as smooth as she remembered it to be.

After rubbing against Lewis’ palm for a while, Josephine finally felt reassured enough to convince herself she was back in reality.

Then, she gently put Lewis’ hand down before gesturing, “You won’t bully me.”

Determination flashed in the young woman’s eyes, reflecting her absolute trust in him. She was both proud and confident when she gestured, “You like me the most, after all.”

Lewis’ lips parted slightly, but he didn’t make a sound.

Josephine started to feel anxious when she didn’t receive a reply from him. She gazed at him. unblinkingly, a trace of eagerness glinting in her eyes. “Isn’t that right?” she gestured.
