Chapter 301 It’s Over Between Us
Lewis’ eyes widened by a fraction as he stood up immediately. Then, he searched the entire office for Josephine.
She had gone missing.
The man couldn’t be bothered to say anything to the doctor at that point. He immediately bolted out of the office in search of the missing woman.
Meanwhile, Josephine was strolling around in the park. She had noticed how beautiful those flowers were, so she wanted to catch some butterflies.
The young woman already picked a few flowers by then, so she sniffed their fragrance happily.
Perhaps Lewis would be happy once she gave him these flowers.
He didn’t smile at all today. Maybe the sight of those flowers would improve his mood.
Before Josephine had time to process her delight, she felt a hand clamping down on her
shoulder from the back.
That action surprised her.
The hand pulled her backward before moving to grip her wrist tightly. “Why did you run off on your own?”
Josephine raised her head, clearly dumbfounded. The first thing she saw was Lewis’ angry expression. Flames of rage danced in his eyes as he glared at her murderously.
She opened her mouth while attempting to struggle against him.
Her wrist hurt a lot because of how strong his grip was.
Lewis glanced at the flowers Josephine was holding. Then, he snatched them over and threw them to the ground mercilessly.
Due to his excessive force in discarding the flowers, the delicate petals were torn away from their stems and scattered haphazardly in all directions.
Someone happened to walk past them at that time, resulting in the petals getting trampled.
Josephine was stunned once again. She turned to stare at the man unblinkingly.
She could tell that he was angry-no-he was furious.
Josephine struggled again, this time attempting to yank her wrist out of Lewis’ grip. However, her efforts just prompted him to tighten his grip even further, as though he intended to shatter her wrist bone.
He didn’t even give her a chance to explain. All he did was drag her toward the parking lot.
The young woman could only follow him while stumbling over her steps every now and then. Waves of pain kept flaring from her trapped wrist, making her eyes redden immediately.
Once they reached the parking lot, Lewis opened the car door and roughly shoved her into the car. Then, he grabbed the seatbelt and strapped her in.
After that, the man leaned down to grip Josephine’s chin. He murmured, “If you keep running off like this, I’ll lock you up.”
Of course, the woman was surprised to hear that threat. The sight of the cold fury in his eyes made her cower in fear.
Lewis slammed the car door behind him and got into the driver’s seat. He then drove Josephine back to the hotel.
He didn’t even stop by the hospital’s pharmacy to grab the medicine which the doctor had prescribed.
Poor Josephine could only curl up on the front passenger seat, not daring to make a sound.
The atmosphere in the car was too tense. She knew very well that Lewis was still mad at her even without glancing at him.
At the same time, the young woman didn’t know why he was so mad at her. All she wanted to do was pick two flowers for him.
Josephine bit her bottom lip while curling into a small ball and watching the unfamiliar scenery whizzing by her window. She felt very sad at that moment.
It was true that Lewis seemed different.
The atmosphere in the car was very silent on the way back to the hotel. Lewis never uttered a single word to Josephine.
Once they reached the hotel, he grabbed her by the wrist and dragged her to their hotel room wordlessly.
After entering their hotel room, the man shoved her into one of the inner rooms before reaching out to grab the doorknob. “Stay here. I’ll break your legs if you dare to run off on your own again.”
Poor Josephine shuddered violently upon hearing the threat. The door was slammed shut in her face before she could react.
They were staying in a suite, so the room Josephine was in happened to be the bedroom. Lewis must have locked her up by placing some sort of obstacle there. No matter how much she turned the knob, she could never get the door open.
She kept pounding against the door, yet no one responded to her. Her nose began to burn as tears welled up and streamed uncontrollably down her cheeks.
Why did he lock her up?
Meanwhile, Lewis tugged at his collar before undoing the first few buttons of his shirt. Then, he withdrew a cigarette from his pocket and lit it up.
He sank onto the couch while smoking. Soon, the common room was filled with smoke, but a gust of wind quickly got rid of the smell.
When Sierra arrived at the suite, she noticed that the door wasn’t closed. At the same time, she smelled smoke coming from the inside, which prompted her to stride into the suite right away
with a frown on her face.
As expected, the first thing she saw was Lewis, who was smoking on the couch.
His sleeves were rolled to his elbows, revealing his arms. A burning cigarette was trapped between his fingers. Meanwhile, his collar fell open haphazardly, and even his hair was slightly messy. A few strands of hair fell in front of his
eyes.
One could easily tell that he was extremely irritated based on his appearance.
Sierra hesitated at that moment, not wanting to accidentally provoke him. However, she wouldn’t know where to find him next time if she didn’t approach him right now.
The woman thought for some time before finally heading toward Lewis.
She stopped next to him while staring at the ashtray on the coffee table. Unwittingly, she wondered how many cigarettes he had smoked today.
Before Sierra could say anything, she heard Lewis ordering, “Get out.”
She remained rooted to the spot without moving an inch.
Then, she crouched next to the man and placed her hands on his lap as she raised her head to
look at him.
“Lewis, was I a bad partner? Did I do something to make you angry? Please don’t treat me like this, okay?”
The aforementioned man continued to smoke relentlessly without looking at her.
Sierra’s heart sank even more upon noticing his coldness toward her. Tears started falling from her eyes as she pleaded, “What did I do wrong, Lewis? At least tell me where I did wrong before you punish me! Just please, don’t ignore me, okay? Can you please not be cold to me as well?”
The more Sierra spoke, the sadder she became. “You never treated me this way before.”
Lewis had never humiliated her like that before. In the past, he would never tell her to get lost
right in front of the other onlookers in public.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
While the woman recounted the incidents that made her feel so aggrieved, Lewis suddenly
interrupted her coldly, saying, “Sierra, I don’t have time for you. Leave right now.”
The poor woman’s complexion became stark white as she stared at him in a shell-shocked state. Then, a grimace appeared on her face.
“Where should 1
go,
then?”
“Back to Elysium.”
Sierra’s fingers curled around Lewis’ lap instantly. At the same time, she didn’t hesitate to shake her head. “No! I’m not going back! I want to be with you!”
Suddenly, the man turned his head to gaze at her
His expression was serene yet cold, devoid of any trace of emotion. To be more precise, he
exuded an air of mercilessness.
He stated, “Sierra, let’s break up.”
Sierra’s eyes slowly widened as all color slowly drained from her face. In the end, she could only stare at him in disbelief.
She thought she was hearing things for a moment, which led to her asking in an uncertain. tone, “W- What did you say?”
Lewis repeated his statement mercilessly once again. “I said, let’s break up. Do you understand what I’m saying now?”
His tone was cold and impassive, as if he were merely performing an ordinary task. There was no hint of reluctance or longing in his voice whatsoever.
It was as though the years they spent together had never existed. Everything was just at wonderful dream that Sierra came up with.
Poor Sierra could only stare at Lewis with her jaw dropped. At that point, her complexion was already as pale as a ghost, which made her look frightening.
Her heart kept thumping wildly behind her ribcage. For a moment, she didn’t know what to
say.
The woman refused to believe Lewis would say such a merciless thing while looking very relaxed. He didn’t seem like the same man who headed toward the cabin all by himself just to save her.
“You-”
Sierra’s mouth still hung open, yet she couldn’t squeeze out another word. Whenever she tried to speak, her voice always quivered violently.
Lewis pulled a check from his breast pocket and placed it on the coffee table. “Here’s 20 million dollars.”
The woman could only remain crouched on the ground while staring at the check Lewis had prepared since who knew when. At that moment, she was so dumbfounded that she couldn’t
react at all.
She felt like an abandoned puppy all of a sudden. The woman couldn’t even utter a word. All she could do was cry silently.
The man added, “How much do you want, then? Give me a number.”
Sierra’s lips trembled as she took a few deep breaths to swallow the sobs that threatened to escape from her lips.
She then picked her words carefully. “You told me you’ll financially support me forever. Are you going back on your word?”
Lewis stared into her eyes deeply.
Sierra returned the gaze with hope written all over her face. She yearned to hear the words she desired most from him.
The man parted his thin lips and replied slowly, “Tell me a number, then. A number which can ensure you a life of riches and luxury.”
