Chapter 299 You Look Old
Lewis wrapped an arm around Josephine’s waist to support her while he flicked the cigarette into the ashtray with his other hand. After that, he poured some water from his glass onto the ashtray to extinguish the embers.
After returning to his seat on the couch, he placed both hands on Josephine’s waist while gazing into her eyes.
“What’s wrong?”
Josephine continued to hug Lewis’ neck while scanning every inch of his face. She shook her head afterward before releasing him.
The next moment he knew, she got up to her feet again so that she could sit on his lap. There, she gestured, “I think you look old.”
Lewis didn’t say anything. Besides, he didn’t know what to say as well.
It made sense that the 29-year-old man was quite old in the eyes of Josephine, who thought of herself as an 11-year-old girl.
If one were to have a baby at such a tender age, the child would have grown to be about ten years old by now.
Lewis’ hand found Josephine’s a while later. He used his other hand to tuck a stray lock behind her ear, murmuring, “Yeah, you’re becoming younger.”
Josephine didn’t understand what he meant. She could only gaze at him in confusion.
Lewis’ lips curled into a small yet bitter smile at that moment.
He scooped the young woman into his arms before moving to place her on the bed. “Alright.
It’s time for bed.”
Josephine shook her head in response. “I can’t sleep.”
She had just opened her eyes some time ago, after all. It was impossible for her to fall asleep
again.
“Just lie on the bed, then,” the man coaxed, shifting her so she could lie down.
However, the young woman refused to let him go, seeing as her arms were still firmly circled around his neck. She was acting even more clingy than before. It wasn’t a good thing at all.
Lewis thought for a moment before climbing into the bed as well.
He leaned against the headboard, allowing Josephine to rest her head on his chest with her arms wrapped loosely around his waist this time. She even moved to hook her leg over his. body as though she was a baby koala.
The man stroked her hair gently while gazing at a certain spot in the room without saying a
word.
Meanwhile, Josephine found herself gazing at Lewis’ open collar, which exposed his
collarbone. She tilted her head upward and looked at his Adam’s apple.
However, he didn’t look happy at all. There wasn’t a trace of a smile on his face.
Josephine looked down once again before moving to stick her cheek against his chest, feeling his chest heaving up and down slowly. Then, she closed her eyes.
Gusts of wind continued to blow into the room via the open window, making the room feel quite cool. Occasionally, the pair could hear the waves lapping against the shore.
The hotel room they stayed in seemed to take on a cold tone. Perhaps it was because of the interior design and the colors.
For some reason, they felt extraordinarily stressed whenever they hung out in the room.
Even though Josephine claimed not to be able to fall asleep, the sound of Lewis’ heartbeat was able to lull her to sleep. Once she closed her eyes, she had the tendency to dream.
It was another dream which seemed to stretch on for ages. However, the dream she was having now looked rather confusing.
It was already the next day by the time Josephine opened her eyes.
She was still snuggling against Lewis with her arms firmly wrapped around him. He had been holding her as well without bothering to change out of his old clothes.
After opening her eyes, Josephine stared at Lewis for a while before reaching out to touch his nose bridge, which looked very straight.
The moment her fingertip made contact with his nose bridge, she saw the man’s eyes flying open in an instant.
Both of them gazed at each other after that.
Josephine blinked mutely before flashing him a smile.
That smile was so dazzling that it stunned Lewis for a moment. Still, he stared at her for a very long time after that.
The sight of his stoic face made her smile slowly fade away. Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Josephine lowered her head while playing with one of Lewis’ buttons absent-mindedly. Soon, she started rubbing against the smooth surface uneasily.
Lewis closed his eyes silently for a few minutes. Finally, he opened his eyes and bowed his head to look at Josephine.
He didn’t hesitate to lift her chin with his fingers while asking, “How old are you now?”
Josephine stared into the man’s deep eyes for some time, feeling weirded out by his question. Had he forgotten about her age?
She raised her hands a moment later to gesture, “I’m 11 years old.”
Lewis’ brows, which were already tangled into a deep frown, started to relax after seeing the answer. He then dragged her forcibly out of bed. “You must be hungry. Let’s go have breakfast.
Josephine nodded in response while jumping out of bed as fast as she could.
She started stretching her body lazily right in front of Lewis without caring about her state of undress. As a result, the oversized shirt she was wearing slid upward abruptly.
From Lewis’ perspective, he was able to see every inch of the young woman’s body.
Then again, all it took was just one glance for him to sit up on the bed and place a hand on her waist to steady her. “Be careful. You might fall.”
Josephine looked down at him for a moment. A smile soon blossomed on her face.
Suddenly, she sat back down on the bed and stared at Lewis with her head tilted.
“You’re so strange,” she gestured.
The man looked surprised as well. “How so?”
Josephine thought for a moment. She didn’t know how to explain it, so she had to spend some time thinking about her answer. “You don’t look happy.”
That was the only detail she was able to pick up. She had no idea Lewis was more than just unhappy then.
The corner of his mouth twitched slightly in response. He remained silent for a long time before squeezing out a faint smile. “Is that so?”
Josephine replied by nodding her head heavily.
Lewis let out a soft chuckle as he threw the covers off his body and got out of bed. Then, he snatched up the suit jacket and wore it right away. “Go change into your clothes. Let’s have breakfast together.”
Josephine got out of bed just as instructed. She looked around the room before locating her suitcase. There, she was able to dig out a few articles of clothing.
She didn’t really like any of those clothes. A beautiful dress was what matched the nice weather the most.
The young woman spent some time rummaging through her clothes before finally settling on
a long shirt and a windbreaker that was equally long.
When Lewis turned around to look at Josephine, he realized that she was already in the midst of changing into the new clothes right in front of him.
He immediately grabbed a cigarette from his pocket and lit it up as he headed toward the
balcony.
Once Josephine was done changing into her clothes, she made her way to the washroom so that she could start washing up there.
By the time she came out, Lewis had already gone through two cigarettes.
The young woman frowned slightly in response. She remembered that Lewis wasn’t the type to smoke, but the thing was, she couldn’t remember when he had started smoking.
Lewis snuffed out the cigarette before leaving the room with Josephine to have breakfast.
The hotel hosted cafeterias and restaurants that served all sorts of cuisines.
While the couple was traveling down the floors in the elevator, they happened to meet Seth, who stayed on the floor beneath theirs.
Seth looked surprised when he noticed Josephine and Lewis inside the elevator the moment the metallic doors slid open. Then, he shot the young woman a glance.
Josephine gripped Lewis’ hand tightly while moving to hide behind him.
Seth’s eyes glinted mysteriously upon witnessing that scene. Still, he walked into the elevator and punched the “close” button.
The elevator proceeded to move downward slowly. No one spoke at all.
Seth stared at the electronic panel which showed the numbers cycling through the floors as the elevator descended. Suddenly, he said, “There’s a famous hospital in Hardington that specifically
tackles cardiovascular neuron diseases. You can take her there to get her treated.”
Lewis didn’t say anything.
Hence, Seth didn’t continue the topic as well.
Josephine continued hiding behind Lewis while sneaking glances at Seth. Meanwhile, the latter kept catching glimpses of her from the corner of his eye.
Once the elevator reached the second floor, Seth took the lead by stepping out right away.
Lewis dragged Josephine out of the elevator as well. They started walking around the second floor while browsing the restaurants there. Lewis then asked Josephine what she wanted to eat
for breakfast.
The young woman wasn’t craving anything in particular, even after checking out all the available eateries. In the end, they decided to go to the cafeteria that served complimentary
food to the hotel guests. It just so happened that there was a breakfast buffet going on right
now.
However, Sierra quickly showed up when they were about to enter the restaurant.
She was already in Hardington for two days, yet she barely caught a glimpse of Lewis, seeing as he kept looking for Josephine the whole time. When she was done eating breakfast, she happened to catch sight of the couple and Seth the moment she stepped out of the restaurant.
Rage coursed through Sierra’s veins at that moment. Lewis was worried about Josephine for nothing. Didn’t he manage to find her in the end?
The woman could barely think straight as she hastened her pace to catch up to Lewis. “Lewis!”
He stopped in his tracks when he heard Sierra’s voice echoing behind him. Seth stopped walking as well. The trio turned around to look at her.
Sierra could feel annoyance bubbling within the pit of her stomach when she noticed them staring at her. She felt as though she was just an outsider who couldn’t become a part of the group no matter what.
She might be an outsider, but as long as she didn’t acknowledge that fact, she would forever be the woman who was the closest to Lewis.
Meanwhile, Josephine eyed Sierra up and down before turning to look at Lewis.
That woman…
