What Separates Me and You

Chapter 282 Referring to Him as Your Brother

Lewis stopped in his tracks before shooting Conrad a sideways glance.

“Seem?”

Conrad looked a little surprised. “Um, that’s what he said over the phone.”

“You should think before you speak, Conrad. Report back to me once you find out what actually happened.”

The assistant wiped the sweat off his brow while nodding hastily. “Understood, Chairman Alvarez. I’ll start investigating right away.”

Lewis ignored the flustered assistant by focusing his attention on Josephine, who was spacing out for no reason. He walked past Conrad so that he could approach her.

The young woman bowed her head, not knowing what to do.

Lewis gripped her wrist and dragged her into the mansion. Josephine kept sneaking glances in his direction as she trailed behind him.

Mrs. Larson quickly welcomed them home. “Madam. Master Lewis.”

Josephine’s heart skipped a beat when she heard the honorific.

Lewis gave Josephine a light push in Mrs. Larson’s direction. “Change her clothes.”

The housekeeper’s expression shifted from surprise to an immediate smile as she responded, ” Certainly, sir.”

She then motioned for Josephine to follow her. “Come with me, Madam.”

Josephine snuck a look in Lewis’ direction. He had already walked over to a nearby couch and sat down by then.

She had no choice but to follow Mrs. Larson upstairs and to the walk-in closet, which was located inside her bedroom. The sight of the clothes surprised her once again.

The style of the clothes hung neatly in the walk-in closet differed completely from those in

Seth’s closet.

These clothes looked normal. At least, no one would stare at Josephine whenever she was in public.

Mrs. Larson asked Josephine to pick out her own clothes, so she simply chose a sweater and a white down jacket.

The housekeeper nodded approvingly after seeing Josephine in her new clothes. “You look much better in these clothes.”

The latter pursed her lips without saying anything.

After that, Mrs. Larson turned on her heel and left the room. Josephine sat on the bed and pulled out her phone just to scroll through the apps to look for clues.

Once she was done, she noticed the notebook on the nightstand, prompting her to flip through it.

The information contained in the notebook was sparse compared to what was stored on her phone. Additionally, it appeared that several pages had been torn out of the notebook.

Josephine had no idea who did that. Once she was done rifling through the notebook, she tossed it back onto the nightstand.

The young woman had no idea where else she could go for now. Hence, she lay on the bed, staring at the rays of sunlight pouring through the window while spacing out.

No matter how reluctant she was, she had no choice but to accept the fact that Lewis had changed.

Meanwhile, Conrad went to the hospital just to confirm what had happened. It turned out that Jack wasn’t dead at all. The man who was in charge of stalking Quintin was an absolute fool. Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

When he noticed Quintin sitting outside an operation room, he thought Jack was currently being operated on. That was why that idiot thought Jack was dead when he saw a body being pushed out of the operation room.

The truth was that Jack had already gotten transferred to a ward some time

ago.

Quintin happened to be on a call at that time, so he took a seat outside that particular

operation room.

Jack had lost too much blood, so he needed a blood transfusion. However, the blood bank. didn’t have enough blood packets of his blood type in stock at the moment, so Quintin was trying to come up with ways to secure more blood packets from other locations.

The man stood at the ward’s doorway at that time. Soon, he noticed Conrad standing not too far away from him when he turned around.

Both of them caught each other by surprise.

After a brief moment of contemplation, Conrad made his way toward Quintin with purposeful strides. Quintin observed him cautiously, his grip on his phone tightening.

“Why are you here?”

Conrad remained silent while trying to word his response properly. “Mr. Quintin, I’m here to visit your friend.”

That earned him a cold chuckle from Quintin. “Stop pretending. Just tell me what you want.

Conrad explained, “You should know very well that you and Miss Vance will never be together, Mr. Quintin. You should divorce her as soon as possible if you don’t want to drag more people into this mess.”

Quintin shot him a look before chortling softly. “Oh? Who else does he want to kill this time?”

“Mr. Quintin, why are you being so stubborn?”

The man replied, “He was the one who hurt Jack to this degree, yet he still wants me to divorce Josephine. Tell him to keep dreaming.”

Jack was Quintin’s friend as well as the most important person in his life. There was no way he could let bygones be bygones now that his beloved friend was fighting for his life in the hospital.

If Quintin didn’t do anything to avenge Jack, how could he ever face him again?

Divorce was definitely not on Quintin’s to-do list, that was for sure.

Conrad frowned in response. His tone took on a hostile edge at that moment. “Does that mean you’re officially planning to become Chairman Alvarez’s enemy?”

“There’s something I’d like to know. Since Lewis doesn’t want Josephine to leave his side at all, why did he even divorce her in the first place?”

Conrad was unable to answer that question. It was impossible for him to know the details.

“How pathetic. He doesn’t care about her, yet he doesn’t want to let her go. He’s gone crazy, hasn’t he?”

“Watch your mouth, Mr. Quintin.”

The aforementioned man retorted coldly, “Lewis killed my dogs, made Jack sustain severe injuries, and almost killed me as well. How can you still demand me to be nice to him?”

When Conrad heard the hostile response, he knew there was no point in continuing to talk to Quintin.

He nodded, saying, “Since that’s the case, you should know the consequences. Goodbye.”

Once he was done speaking, he turned around and left the ward without waiting for Quintin’s reply.

The latter watched Conrad’s silhouette, his hands slowly curling into tight fists by his sides. Soon, the dull cracks of his knuckles could be heard.

Quintin then turned around to look at the ward. Jack was still unconscious and had an oxygen mask strapped to his face. He almost died from blood loss when he was first sent to the hospital.

Quintin swore that he would drag Lewis down to hell with him if anything were to happen to

Jack.

Conrad reported to Lewis about his meeting with Quintin right after leaving the hospital.

Lewis discarded his phone and made his way to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the scenery.

The trees in the courtyard had shed their leaves completely by now. The man’s view consisted of bare trees and plants, devoid of any foliage. Even the sun chose to conceal itself behind. layers of clouds, resulting in a gray sky and a pale-looking ground.

Josephine had spent the past few hours lounging in the bedroom. She was starting to feel bored when Seth sent her a text message.

The young woman grabbed her phone and looked at the screen. It was a hangout invitation.

She couldn’t help but look at the text message in a daze. Then, she scrolled upward, only to see there wasn’t a chat history between her and Seth. It seemed that this was his first time texting her.

Josephine tapped on Seth’s profile picture so that she could look at his Whatsapp profile. There was nothing there. He didn’t even update his Whatsapp status.

After that, she returned to his profile picture. It was a sleek, black rapier standing on a weapon stand. The background was black as well.

Honestly speaking, that picture didn’t fit Seth’s bearing at all.

Josephine put her phone away and got up to open the door, only to see Lewis standing there.

He was currently wearing a gray turtleneck and a pair of slacks. Even so, he towered over Josephine at the doorway.

The latter raised her head to look at him. At that moment, a dazed look took over her face; it was as though she had just seen the man she remembered ever so clearly in her memories.

“Where are you going?”

That question forcibly snapped Josephine out of her trance. She gestured, “My brother wants me to go meet him.”

Lewis could feel one of his eyes twitching in annoyance. “Brother?”

Josephine didn’t know why he would reveal such an expression on his face, but she still

nodded in response.

The man before her let out a cold chuckle. “You’re really immersed in your acting, aren’t you?

I can’t believe you’re already referring to him as your brother.”

She pursed her lips, clearly not understanding what he meant.

Lewis continued, “You’re not allowed to meet him.”

That made Josephine frown in response as her confusion intensified. “Why not?”

The man gripped her wrist before shoving her back into her room and closing the door behind her. Then, he pinned her against the door.

It was enough to stun Josephine, to say the least.

Lewis then gripped her chin and forced her to tilt her head so that she could make eye contact

with him.

He murmured, “I said, you’re not allowed to meet him.”

Flames of anger threatened to spring up and consume Josephine whole. She glared at the man before her angrily and gestured, “Why. Not.”

“No reason.”

Josephine’s anger intensified upon hearing his response. She attempted to forcefully push him. away, but before she could make contact, she felt his firm grip clamp down on her wrists. Then, Lewis raised her hands above her head and pinned them against the door.
