Under My Boss’ Table

Chapter 38 Please, we need to talk!

A few minutes later I virtually met her. Alina looked at me from the laptop screen in bewilderment:

“What happened to you, Elvira? Are you not dealing with your feelings?”

“Yes, even if it’s just feelings! It was Edward who didn’t face his penis!” I exclaimed excitedly. Alina put a finger to her lips.

“Elvira, inhale, exhale. First, normalize your breathing and then start. You are not yourself, I can see that…”

I must have looked bad from the outside. Extremely puckered face, frantic gaze running from side to side, the corners of the lips drooping. And my chest often heaved.

Only after Alina’s words did I realize that I was breathing inconsistently, I was gasping for air, and I followed her advice. Inhale, exhale…

“Well then. I think you can start.” Said Alina shyly after a couple of minutes. I was silent for a while, then Edward and Anna were before my eyes again. And then an avalanche fell on me…

I talked, I talked, I talked a lot and I couldn’t stop. Alina listened to me carefully, occasionally nodding and cursing. I told her in color how Edward had changed after my trip to Lithuania and how well he pretended to be in practice. I told her about Anna, who tried to woo me, take care of me and ended up getting attached to my boss. The same position I started with!

“It’s amazing that Anna was sitting ON the table, not UNDER the table.” I said rudely.

I talked about Edward’s wife, but quite a bit; In light of recent events, she no longer seemed such a negative character.

I told her how it hurt at that moment…

When I finished, there was silence. A long time. Alina looked at me through the webcam, far away, but I was looking to the side. I felt a little better again.

“So… you didn’t talk to them, did you?” Said my sister.

“Are you slow enough?” I was surprised by her. “What to talk to them about?! I caught them red-handed!!!”

“Elvira… If you only knew how many stories of this kind unfolded completely differently than you expect.” Alina started her support lecture, but we were interrupted by a knock on my apartment door. “Uh… Did I hear a knock or?…”

“Hush.” I said, listening. The blow was repeated, this time louder and more insistent. “So, don’t log out yet, Alina. I’ll see who it is. Maybe a neighbor.” I cast a weak smile at the laptop and got up reluctantly from the couch.

The blows were already very demanding and started to scare me. I quickly glanced at the wall clock. Who did you bring so late?

KNOK!

It looked like the door was about to open!

I, without thinking and in total horror, screamed as best I could. If only the neighbors could listen!

I immediately hid in the hall closet…

There was silence outside the door. Then a familiar strangled voice rang out, but I didn’t understand what it was saying.

“Edward?” I was terribly surprised and headed for the door as silently as possible. You never knew what to expect!

I looked carefully through the peephole. Exactly, Edward! He was leaning against the door and spoke desperately:

“Elvira, open up! It’s me! Please, we need to talk!”

“That’s it.” I mumbled and opened the door. Edward immediately broke into my apartment. His gaze fell on me, scared and angry. Immediately this mixture of emotions changed to joyous:

“Elvira!!! You are alive!”

“And why did I have to die?” I wondered, while my boss hugged me tightly, squeezing me so much that I screamed. It seemed my boss was in a panic.

I was so impressed with Edward’s condition that I even forgot about his adventure at the office.

“What are you doing?!” I asked. “You scared me, you almost gave me a heart attack!”

“You scared me.” He whispered hotly. “You ran away from work, ignored the calls, and then the phone completely disconnected! I was afraid something had happened to you! Something… Like with Lisa…”

And then all of a sudden, a tear ran down Edward’s cheek. He immediately turned around, embarrassed by this, and started rubbing his cheek.

I was completely confused and didn’t know what to say.

“Well, here I am. Alive. I’m fine. Satisfied?” I said awkwardly.

“You can’t imagine how much.” Edward smiled at me and hugged me gently.

I stood up and didn’t move.

“Um… You made sure I was okay. You can go.”

“I’m not going anywhere until we’re all clear.” Edward looked into my eyes and suddenly, with an imperious voice that did not tolerate any objection, he continued:

“My dear, now you will sit on a chair and listen to what I have to say to you. What you saw today is…”

“You know what, dear.” I cut him off. “You will go to hell!”

“You didn’t even listen to me.” Edward was confused by my anger. “I had nothing with Anna!”

“Ah!” I was shocked. “Are you lying to me so blatantly?…”

Without realizing what he was doing, I slapped him across the face. Edward’s right side instantly flushed and he closed his eyes.

“Oh… sorry…” I murmured. There was no trace of the earlier anger.

“Please, please, listen to me.” Edward said in an unusually calm voice, without opening his eyes. “Now I will tell you the truth, and nothing but the truth. I swear.”
