Chapter 103
Chapter 103
“Uh… Just call him Mr. Melendez. He might whisk you away, and If you don’t hide now, you might not see your mom again!”
“What gives him the right to take me away?” Alex frowned, I’m going to confront him! Why does he want to separate me from Mom?”
As he was about to storm out, Elio grabbed him, ‘Alex! This is not the time to be beadstrong! You’ll only cause trouble for your mom!”
If Alex really bolted out right now, he had no idea how he was going to explain this to Clara.
“But Mom’s always been scared of him; it’s been tough on her! I’m grown up now and I want to have a word with him! Why won’t he leave Mom alone? She’s already had it hard enough!”
Eho squatted down, gently touching Alex’s face. “Young man, grown–ups do things for a reason, you’re too young to understand now, but you’ll get it when you’re older. Can you follow me for now?”
“What about Mom? Would Emmett hurt her?”
“No, they just need to have a talk.” Elio didn’t want Alex to harbor any ill feelings toward Emmett.
He was, after all, his father. Such hostility might have caused some sort of psychological impact on the kid.
He just hoped Alex could remain an ordinary, lively, and innocent boy.
“But Emmett looks so stern! Mom looks really scared of him, Mr. Milburn. Can you take me to see him, please? I want to tell Emmett to leave me and Mom alone and to stop making Mom scared!”
“Honey, your mom must have her reasons for not letting you see him. It’s definitely for your own good, just be a good boy and follow me. I’ll take you to eat something yummy. Do you like fried chicken?”
On hearing about fried chicken, Alex’s eyes lit up.
He was still a child, after all, and soon forgot about everything else.
“Alright then!”
“Good” Elio took Alex’s hand, casting a worried glance outside.
What was going on over there right now? Could Clara get away smoothly?
“Ricardo, I need you to check someone out for me”
Back at the hotel, Emmett immediately called Ricardo to investigate Elio.
Soon enough, Elio’s information was dug up.
Emmett immediately understood, “He’s the doctor who helped that woman give birth and hide a child all those years ago!*
“Yes, he was the one who came in as a last–minute replacement to deliver the baby” Ricardo continued, “And he’s known the lady for a long time. I went through their call records and there were quite a few!”

“Elio… I need to see him.”
“Now? It should be late at night over there!”
“Right now! Is there a problem?”
“No, no problem, Mr. Melendez. I’ll contact someone from the Milburn family right away!”
After hanging up, Emmett went out to the balcony, instinctively reaching for a cigarette. But even though his hand was already out, he withdrew it before touching the box.
Why did he feel like he was getting closer to some truth?
