Chapter 12
I pulled out some Doritos once I was in her apartment and sat in front of her TV to continue my Adam Lee movie since she already had the movie.
A few hours later, Peter texted me, ‘Thinking about you’ which I ignored. I continued my movie and had already started enjoying being unemployed when another message popped up on my phone.
‘Where the hell are you?’ from Jason
“Arrogant asshole,” I murmured and continued my movie.
‘Why are you not in your office?’
“Ask me one more time,” I said with a mouthful of Doritos.
‘Lexi, for God sake where are you?’
‘I owe you no explanation’ I texted back.
‘Lexi, I’m sorry. Just come back to the office; let’s talk it out.
‘There is nothing to talk about sir. I fired myself’ I texted back and switched off my phone.
“Lexi, what is wrong with you?” My subconscious asked me, “Why are you behaving like this? You want a job; he gave you one with good sex. What else do you want?”
“I know what I want, and I know what I don’t want. I don’t want to be anybody’s good fuck; I want something more. I want to be respected, loved, and cared for,” I replied back, “and I don’t want all those from another man but Jason because he is the one I love.”
“Love!? Since when?” My subconscious asked
“Since… I don’t know. I think since our first night together,” I replied.
“But he doesn’t love you.”
“I know. That’s why I won’t be working for him anymore.”
“And you think that is going to work?”
“That is the only solution that I know of. You get a better solution?”
At last, Cynthia came back from work, looked at the situation in her sitting room, and shook her head.
“Don’t tell me you are enjoying this.” She asked
“What do you expect me to do? Kill myself?” I replied with a mouthful of Doritos.
“Did you really fire yourself, or did you get fired?”
“I fired myself.”
“And you’re comfortable with being jobless again?”
“Of course, I would rather become jobless than continue working for that arrogant bitch.”
“What happened?” She asked
“I’m sure you would have done the same.”
“What happened?”
“He got under my skin. I caught him cheating on me, and he was comfortable with it. He was telling me he owed me no explanation. How do you expect me to continue working for such a man?”
“Did you catch him red-handed?”
“No, I suspected him, but he didn’t deny it,” I said with a mouthful.
“Stop eating like that; it’s annoying.”
“Because I’m jobless doesn’t mean that I should starve myself to death,” I said with another mouthful.
“Did he really say he cheated?”
“No, he didn’t say it that way; he just said he owes me no explanation.”
“And that makes you think he cheated?”
“Wait, whose side are you on?” I said it with a mouthful to annoy her more.
“I said you should stop eating that way; it’s annoying.”

“Wait a minute! Alexi, don’t tell me those are my Doritos.”
“Who else would they be?”
“Don’t tell me, are you mine?” She asked again while getting up to confirm it.
“You don’t have to stress yourself; they are yours.”
“You know I don’t joke with my Doritos, right?”
“This was exactly what it felt like when you ate all my chocolate cookies in college.”
“That was a long time ago.”
“Long but not forgotten, today is pay-back day. Please get me a Coke on your way back here.”
“Get it yourself.”
“Are you that mad?” I joked
“Extremely”
I turned on my phone around six in the evening and sent Judith a quick message that I would be spending the night with Cynthia because I had the feeling that Jason would come visiting, and I was about to turn it back off when his messages came rolling in.
“Don’t you really want to talk to me?”
“I have a two hours meeting to attend right now, I will call you as soon as possible”
That last message was sent at 3:45 p. m., which means he will be calling at any moment from now on. I turned off my phone immediately because I didn’t want to take chances.
We continued the movie and made sure to finish the season before going to bed.
“Will he really die for her?” Cynthia asked me while we were getting ready for bed.
“I don’t know. I don’t know what is going to happen if Adam Lee dies,” I replied.
In the last episode we watched, Adam Lee had to make a choice. Either he chooses the wicked princess, Emily, and lives, or Jessica, the poor girl he loves, dies.
“Who do you think he will choose?” Cynthia asked
“It’s a very thoughtful decision. I don’t want him to die, and I don’t want him to choose Emily.”
