Chapter 54
“Liam, I’m glad you’re back,” Emerald said after seeing her friend entering her house. She was on her way to the kitchen but was stopped by his presence.
“Yeah, finally.”
“How did it go? Did you find anything?” I asked hopefully.
“I don’t know, M, we failed.”
“You didn’t get anything?”
“We did, but just another lead.”
“Then it’s good. I mean, it’s better than nothing, right?”
“I think so, too, but I don’t know,” Liam said as he sat on the couch. Emerald is following him with her gaze before she sits opposite him.
“I’m sorry to burden you with this,”
“No, M. I volunteered for this case, so you don’t have to feel guilty.”
“Hi, Uncle Liam!!” Ace greeted him excitedly.
“Hey, little man.” The boy jumped at him, sitting on his lap, laughing.
“I missed you, Uncle Liam.”
“And I missed you too. How are you? Have you been good?”
Emerald smiled, looking at them, thinking nothing had changed between them, even if Ace hadn’t called Liam Daddy anymore. At first, she thought her friend would take it differently, but she was glad that he understood.
“Tomorrow is Saturday. Do you want to go out tonight and have some fun?” Liam asked the boy, who nodded excitedly before looking at Emerald.
“Alright, we will go.” Young Morgan said, knowing what her son would tell her. Ace jumped for joy and called his nanny to tell her they would leave.
“You’re spoiling him, you know,” Emerald said as the boy prepared to get dressed.
“I have been busy, and I believe you are too; it’s important to have time with him, or he will try to get it from other people, right?” Liam said, smiling.
“Aren’t you tired?”
“When it comes to Ace and you, I will never get tired.” Emerald smiled at him, thinking how lucky she was to have him as her friend. A part of her felt sad for him since she could not reciprocate his feelings and wished to have loved him instead of Jace.
“Thank you, Liam. You’re truly a good friend,” she said, making the handsome man look at him, smiling, hiding the pain in his heart for calling him her friend.
The three left with the nanny. Liam was driving while Emerald was in the passenger seat, and Ace and his nanny were in the backseat. If you look at them, you’ll think they were a family of three.
They end up in a park, and the two friends let the boy run around and play. His nanny followed him wherever he went, so Emerald felt a little relieved. “I’m happy that Ace is happy now,” Liam said as they watched the boy after they sat on a vacant bench.
Emerald nodded, “Yes, he is. Jace brought him to his parents, and my son loves it. He likes his little cousin and grandparents.”
“Don’t think about bringing him to your parents; they will never teach him anything good if you introduce your son to them.” Emerald chuckled and said,
“You’re right. Look at what happened to Emerose. She’s a spoiled brat. She could have done something for the grocery stores but chose to follow our mother.”
“And I’m glad you’re nothing like her or them.” Liam said, “It may be hard for you, especially when we haven’t found your nanny. I know you wanted to see and be with her already since your family disregarded you.”
“I am not a little girl who would succumb to the feeling of emptiness because my family doesn’t care or love me,”
“I know, but you’re still a woman, a daughter, and a little sister who would want to be loved and taken care of. It’s hard; that’s why I admire you for being strong. Not just as a woman or person, but as a mother to your son who managed to raise him as a very intelligent and kind boy.”
“There’s nothing important in my life right now but Ace and my nanny. When I have them both, everything will be okay for me, and I will be the happiest woman on earth.”
“I know, that’s why I didn’t want to give up the search either. I promise to do everything to find her, M.”
Emerald felt happy. “Speaking of nanny, the other party you said was looking for her, so he went to see me.”Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
“What?” Liam exclaimed.
“I want to call you as soon as we’re done talking, but I couldn’t reach you.”
“Yes, the island we were in is very isolated, and the signal is bad. Tell me, what did he say?” he asked, and Emerald began to tell him everything.
“Are you sure? When will the result come out?”
“I don’t know, how long does a DNA test usually take?” Emerald asked.
“It depends; you can rush it if you want to,” he replied.
“Liam, is it bad to wish nanny Lucy to become my real mother?” Emerald asked out of nowhere. The man looked at her and knew exactly what she was thinking. “I mean, it’s not because she’s wealthy and has a boyfriend who was wealthier,”
“I understand, M. And believe it or not, I wish for that too. I want her to be your mother instead of that Merly Morgan. I want her and Mr. Landers to become your parents because I know they will care for you, so you don’t need to explain.”
“Thank you for your understanding.”
Liam pulled her closer before hugging her, trying to comfort Emerald the best he could.
Young Morgan pulled away from Liam, wiping her tears. She looked up to him, smiling before she sighed and averted her gaze back to her son, who was still playing and running with his nanny and laughing with him.
The park is a famous go-to place for kids in their neighborhood because of its child-friendly environment. It has a playground covered with artificial grass, so parents don’t need to worry about their kids getting hurt.
It was surrounded by a knee-high fence, making the kids visible to their parents, who sat on the benches from the park surrounding the playground and looked after them.
Occasionally, Ace would wave his hands to both Liam and Emerald. He would call them, and the two would smile back at him.
Ace was making a turn after he went on a slide and went back. Emerald can see him even if she is talking to Liam. “Mom, are we going to eat out after this?” Ace asked, shouting.
Emerald got up from the bench, walked closer to him, and said, “If you want to.”
The boy jumped for joy and continued playing while Emerald returned to the bench where Liam was still sitting, watching them.
“Where do you plan to bring the boy for dinner?”
“Ace loves fast food, so I guess the one outside this park will be good.” Liam laughed at Emerald’s reply. He knew about it as well because he was the one who introduced fast food to the boy.
“What’s taking him so long?” Emerald asked,
“Who?”
“Ace. Why isn’t he not sliding yet?” Emerald replied, asking. She got up and walked to the playground, followed by Liam. “Ace,” she shouted when she arrived at the slide where the boy was earlier. When she looked down, she found her son’s shoes. “No, no, no,” Young Morgan said, panicking.
“Wait, M. Relax; he must be on the swing or the seesaw with his nanny. Come on, and let’s find him.” Liam said, trying to calm Emerald. He grabbed her hand and started to roam around, searching for Ace and his nanny.
