Chapter 30. Bidding
Noah POV
“How did I get home last night?”
That was the first question that came to my head when I opened my eyes and saw the familiar sight of my bedroom’s ceiling.
My phone rings, and despite feeling ig over, I squinted to locate my phone. I grabbed it from the nightstand and pressed the
answer button.
“Hunter,” I mumbled huskily.
The caller spoke, and I sat up straight.
“Chris, who brought me home?” I asked, brushing back the hair that fell loosely on my forehead.
I really could not remember what happened the night before. I was so hammered.
“The driver, sir, and Mr. Brent. They carried you to your room.” He informed me.
I winced when pain shot from the back of my head to my temple.
“Can you bring me a hangover cure? I feel like a ton of bricks fell on me.” I told him.
He agreed, and the line went dead. A few minutes later, I heard a knock on the door, and Joe, the butler, came in.
“Mr. Noah. Your hungover cure.” He handed me a pill and a glass of water, which I downed instantly.

I got up from the bed. “Chris said you have a conference in the afternoon for the Annual Trade Fair. He said he already emailed you a copy of the proposal for this afternoon’s meeting.” He reported.
I nodded and walked to the ensuite bathroom. I was half–listening because I felt the need to pee.
After doing my morning thing, I went to shower.
When I got back to the room, Joe was gone. I rubbed my hair dry with the towel and started preparing for the conference I had to attend this afternoon.
After that, I went to the kitchen for breakfast. I found Mrs. Dorcas
by the sink, waiting patiently for me.
She greeted me, and I nodded at her. Mrs. Dorcas and Joe were the only staff I took from the old house the house Briana and I
used to live in.
When I returned from France two years ago, the sight of the house made me uncomfortable, so I asked Chris to scout an apartment for me, and he found me this. It was smaller and suited a bachelor
like me.
An hour later, Chris arrived, and we discussed our proposal.
The annual trade fair is a big event attended by various people from the business sector all over the country. The emerging winner of the bid will host this year’s event.
“It’s a million–dollar event. The hotel could use that for expansion.” Chris explained.

When the car stopped outside the main entrance to the city hall, Chrs and I got out.
At the lobby, we found Mr. Langleywaiting for us.
A city govemment staff guided us to the venue. As we navigate our way around a small crowd, we saw familiar figures and nodded at
them.
The bidders like us formed a panel while the mayor sat at the head of the conference table.
While we were ushered to our seats, there was a commotion at the
I saw Briana walking in.
She was with a woman staff whom I assumed to be her assistant. But it was the man walking beside her that made my mood
crappier.
My jew clenched. My eyes squinted in recognition of the man. He as the same man in the pictures that Uncle Matt showed me.
Fury gripped me, but I controlled myself. I have to win this bid at all costs now that I know Briana will be my biggest opponent.
Everyone started to take their seats. Briana and I were seated together, and too many people from the hotel industry recognized her.
“Mrs. Hunter, welcome back to Redwood.” One businessman greeted her.
Briana smiled. She took a name card from her purse and offered it
to the man. “It’s Briana Ford, Mr. Lucas. She corrected him.
Her response infuriated me. It was like she did not want to acknowledge our past connection.

Briana’s attention.
It gave me a perverse sense of enjoyment when Briana threw me a sharp look. I held on to it, not wanting to let go.
I heard someone cleared his throat, and then another person supplied,
“Oh yeah. I heard you and Noah here are divorced.”
Briana pulled her gaze away from me.
I thought she would transfer her gaze to the speaker to address him. I wanted her to confirm our divorce.
A part of me wanted her to acknowledge that she was once married to me, but she ignored the question and looked down at her notes instead.
The bidding committee opened the process, and the bidders came

forward one by one to present their proposals.
After the bidding, the head of the committee congratulated each participating company and informed us that they would be
reviewing our proposals for their merits.
“We will let everyone know once we finalize our decision.”
The meeting ended. Briana walked away without giving a sideward glance in my direction.
She was purposely ignoring my presence, and I found it annoying.
Leaving my team behind and ignoring the curious looks that people threw my way, I ran after Briana.
