Chapter 36
Chapter 36 Getting to Know Ashton Duncan
The police soon showed up at the lobby. After confirming the suspects‘ whereabouts, they walked over to the group, announcing, “Caitlin Hall, Sienna Charles, please come with us to the police department.”
Sarah tripped on the hem of her dress and fell during her worried attempt to stop her daughter from being hauled away. She blacked out when she hit her head on the floor.
At last, the debacle had come to an end. Now that the unwelcome guests had left the dinner party, Henry led Gwen to the center of the hall and introduced her to everyone.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Gwen Lawson has since left her role at Savant Group as the secretary to the CEO. Now, she is the general manager of Savant Group’s Bellmont City office. I hope she’ll get a chance to work with you all”
Murmurs spread across the crowd during Henry’s speech.
“Ms. Lawson’s career progression is really something. She got a job at the Savant Group after quitting the Hall Group. What do you think is her relationship with Mr. Lawson?”
“They’re both Lawsons, but I don’t think they’re related at all. Why would a Lawson marry a Hall family member and work as a secretary for three years?”
“Anyway, I bet her three years in the Hall family was torturous. I would forgive her if she cheated on Jake Hall.”
Thanks to Henry’s support, helped by the Hall family’s blunder at the event, the online attacks on Gwen gradually subsided.
The guests accepted the olive branch from Gwen. After a night of mingling, she made acquaintance with many figures she hadn’t had the chance to meet before. One of them was Quantum Corporation’s young CEO, Ashton Duncan. Ashton approached Gwen while swirling his glass. “Ms. Lawson, your name precedes you. I’m Ashton Duncan.”
Flashing him a soft smile, she raised her glass to him. “Hi, Mr. Duncan.”
As the Savant Group was about to kick off the commercialization of its R&D research project, she was in search of a trustworthy business partner, and Quantum Corporation was at the top of her list.
Getting to know Ashton was her main reason of attending the dinner party, more important than getting Caitlin and Sienna arrested. She wanted to maximize the profit of the Savant Group Bellmont office via a partnership with Ashton.

“Congrats to you for regaining your freedom from the shackles of marriage. I hope you soar to greater heights.” Ashton’s voice was deep and mellow. Yet, he had a sly, intelligent glint in his eyes that seemed to read through anyone he met.
Gwen met his eyes fearlessly as she downed her champagne. “Thank you, Mr. Duncan. I’ll be visiting you for business in the future. I hope you’ll remember me from today.”
Her poise and courage surprised him. He too downed his wine with a smile. “Of course. I’ll never forget you.”
After the dinner party, Gwen returned to her family residence in Bellmont City. Right after she stepped foot into the house, she received a congratulatory letter from Judy.
-Judy had written on the envelope, “For You, My Bestie.” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
Gwen opened the mail and found Judy’s handwritten news article, in which she had laid out the “crimes” of the Hall family members. Yet, Judy did not reveal any identifying information about Gwen.
The article was succinct yet eye–catching. In summary, Judy had written about three scandals.
“Jake Hall is a cheating jerk.”
“Sienna Charles the mistress got herself pregnant”

“Caitlin Hall is a gangster.”
The write–up would piss Sarah off so badly that she would lose sleep over it. After reading the article, Gwen called Judy. Judy answered curtly. “Hello?”
“Girl, you’re the editor–in–chief of Universal Entertainment alright! I’m in awe of your writing skills.” After a pause, Gwen added, “Anyway, thank you.”
Gwen felt blessed to receive the staunch support of many people around her. At that moment, she overheard Yara’s voice in the backdrop.
Yara yelled, “Ah, that’s so cheesy! Darling, come out now. We’ll wait for you at Halo Bar until you show up!”
Gwen beamed. It was time for the three of them to catch up. “Coming.”
Judy asked for their opinion, “Can I publish that article right now?”
Before Gwen could speak, Yara barked, “Yeah! Publish it now. The Hall family needs to get onto the trending topics for once. It’s time for the netizens to condemn them.”
Gwen smiled. “You’re right.”
