Chapter 6: What A Monster
Chapter 6: What A Monster
Alfred looked at Lauren's pale face. He didn't expect her to bring it up this time.
Lauren looked at the white quilt covering her body and said coolly, "When I can leave the hospital, let's get divorced."
Alfred clasped Carrie's hand tightly. "Okay."
A nurse hurried in and gave Lauren an injection, interrupting the two who were about to talk.
Lauren had been afraid of injections since she was a child, but now she had no feeling at all. After all, she had experienced the excruciating pain of losing a child. How painful could this be?
When the needle pierced her hand, Lauren regained consciousness a little. Feeling Lauren's hand twitched, the nurse comforted her, "It's okay, it doesn't hurt."
Lauren nodded, indicating that she was okay.
Alfred and Carrie cuddled down on the sofa in the ward.
"Here, Alfred, open your mouth and eat a grape." Carrie peeled a grape and sent it to Alfred's mouth.
Alfred obediently ate the grape.
Lauren stared coldly at the two showing their affection. This was probably the most gentle look she had seen Alfred have in so many years. He had always spoken harshly in front of her. It was really ironic to
think about it.
It was fine. Anyway, she had already made up her mind to divorce him, so it was better to let them be that way.
"Excuse me, please bring me some books when you go out," Lauren said softly to the nurse.
The nurse replied and went out to get the books. She was very efficient and immediately brought a few books. Lauren took the books and thanked her. Then she picked up a book and started to read.
Lauren was indifferent to how Alfred and Carrie showed affection in front of her, but Alfred couldn't help being a little angry.
He pushed Carrie aside abruptly, walked to Lauren, pinched her cheeks with his big hands, and forced her to look at him. His eyes were so cold.
"Look at us."
Lauren was forced to look straight at Alfred's face which she had been thinking of and loved for so many years. At this moment, she couldn't be less interested.
Lauren stared at Alfred stubbornly, not showing weakness even with the burning pain on her face.
"Come here," Alfred said to Carrie.
Carrie came over immediately as she was told.
Alfred pinched Lauren's face with one hand and pressed the back of Carrie's head with the other.
Alfred was a monster. Even when they were making out, he still wanted her to watch it.
Alfred let go of Carrie, but still pinched Lauren’s face.
"Look clearly."
Carrie was very satisfied with Alfred doing this, letting Lauren see clearly who Alfred really loved.
"Alfred, what are you doing? Lauren hasn't recovered yet. Don't do that." Carrie groaned and removed Alfred's hand holding Lauren's cheek.
Alfred withdrew his hand. There were two red marks on Lauren's face, which looked scary.
"Oh!" Carrie looked at the wound on Lauren's face and made a fuss. "Alfred, look at you, why do you bully Lauren like this? It must hurt."
Lauren said nothing.
Alfred thought that Carrie always considered others. She knew that Lauren had destroyed the relationship between the two of them but still treated Lauren kindly. Alfred determined that he had made the right choice.
Suddenly, there was an emergency in the company, so Alfred had to leave first, leaving Carrie and Lauren in the ward.
Seeing that Alfred was gone, Carrie walked to the sofa and sat down unhurriedly, peeling grapes to eat.
"Don't think you can get anything if you marry Alfred. You know he loves me after all these years. Do you think you can threaten us with a baby? You are so cheap. Do you know why Alfred is so determined to abort the child? I don’t want this child to be born, so he won't just let you have it.' Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
Lauren, who had always been expressionless, felt a pain in her heart when she heard the child. She thought that Alfred resolutely took the baby away because he didn't trust her at all, but unexpectedly, he was doing it for Carrie.
She didn't expect that Alfred cared about Carrie so much that he could even give up his own flesh and blood for her.
How could he murder their child on the operation table just because of what Carrie said?
Lauren looked up at Carrie. Carrie's delicate makeup couldn't hide her hideous heart.
"You should wake up. Stop daydreaming. You will never win Alfred's heart. He belongs to me. After so many years, you should have figured it out. You'd better divorce him after leaving the hospital tomorrow. Then we can finally be together."
Carrie walked to Lauren's hospital bed.
"Why do you have to live so without dignity? Even if you've fucked with him, you still mean nothing to him. Don't deceive yourself anymore."
Lauren looked at Carrie with disgust in her eyes.
"Whether to divorce or not is also a matter between Alfred and me. As long as I don't agree with the divorce, Alfred can't do anything about it. Stop being sarcastic. Otherwise, I will regret it later and don’t want to divorce. I bet you will be the most anxious one by then, won't you?"
Carrie raised her eyebrows, not caring what she said.
