Reborn for Revenge or A Second Chance At Vengeance

Chapter 5

Chapter 5

From a very young age, she had been warned by Hannah not to use the skills she had taught her to make money before getting married. In other words, everything she had learned from reading books at Hannah’s place couldn’t be used to make a living. Moreover, what she had learned from Hannah, she could not reveal to anyone, including her adoptive mother, Phyllis. Otherwise, it would invite trouble. In his previous life, Curtis’ mother required kidney transplant surgery, which cost approximately a million before and after the operation. She couldn’t bear to see Curtis overwhelmed every day, so she secretly went to help someone restore a painting. The reward was exactly one million. A few days had passed when she accompanied Luna on a shopping trip. Upon seeing a small truck speeding toward them, without a second thought, she pushed Luna out of the way. In the end, she was left with a high-level amputation. Fortunately, those events had not yet occurred in her current lifetime. In her previous life, she never saw Hannah again before she died. Upon seeing the letter left behind by Hannah, the familiar handwriting, Aurelia could no longer contain the tumultuous emotions she had been feeling all day. Tears welled up in her eyes and fell drop by drop onto the letter. The letter stated that Hannah had only one prediction left in her lifetime, and she had given it to Aurelia. Hannah had foreseen that Aurelia was destined to face a calamity, a disaster so severe that it could almost claim her life, and there was even a possibility that Aurelia might not survive the next three years. The letter said that if Aurelia had received this letter, it would mean she had survived this catastrophe, akin to a reincarnation. From then on, the sky was the limit, and she was free to soar. In the end, Hannah said that if fate allowed, they would meet again in the future. There was no need to force it. When she was a child, she wanted to learn how to perform tarot reading from Hannah. However, Hannah told her that uncovering the secrets of fate wasn’t a good thing, so she didn’t teach her. However, although she couldn’t perceive fortunes and misfortunes like Hannah, she could discern good or bad omens from antiques. Later, Aurelia devoted more of her energy to Hannah’s ancient books. “Oh, no… Why are you crying, Auri? Are you feeling unwell?” Mabel watched as tears rolled down Aurelia’s cheeks, her heart clenched with worry. Mabel didn’t know why, but when she saw Aurelia crying, she felt heartbroken. Suddenly, something occurred to Mabel. It seems as though Aurelia has suffered some kind of injustice. “Grandma, I’mExclusive © material by Nô(/v)elDrama.Org.

fine. I just miss Hannah too much.” Aurelia managed to smile through her tears, not wanting to worry Mabel. After a while, taking advantage of Aurelia’s trip to the restroom, Mabel secretly made a phone call to Matthew. “You rascal, did you give Auri a hard time when you two were getting your marriage certificate today?” After finishing his work, Matthew was about to leave when he received a phone call that left him somewhat taken aback. “What did she tell you?” he asked. “Auri didn’t say anything, but do you forget how sharp my eyes are? I could tell early on that Auri was wronged.” Mabel scoffed. “I didn’t do anything.” As Matthew walked toward the elevator, he raised his hand to rub his forehead. Is Aurelia trying to gain something through Grandma? When we received our certificate today, I thought she would adhere to the terms of the agreement. However, it now seems that she has more on her mind than I anticipated. A swift glint of coldness flashed in Matthew’s eyes. “It better not be you! I want you to come to pick her up personally tonight. Remember the task I entrusted to you? I want a great-grandchild as soon as possible,” Mabel uttered before she hung up the phone. Matthew was feeling helpless. Just as the elevator arrived, as he was about to step in, he noticed that Gordon was absent-minded. After dropping Aurelia off at the Quigley residence, Gordon found himself frequently lost in thought. “What’s the matter?” asked Matthew. With a pained expression, Gordon took off the jade pendant hanging around his neck. He then relayed everything that Aurelia had said in front of the Quigley residence. There were only the two of them in the elevator. After he finished speaking, Gordon continued, “Did I offend Ms. Shaw somewhere? Was she just trying to scare me offhandedly? There’s no such bizarre thing.” It’s merely a jade pendant. How could one discern that it was taken from a dead person? Matthew raised his eyebrows slightly, adding a touch of aloofness to his handsome face. Why do I get a feeling Aurelia has tricked Grandma? “Don’t bother listening to her,” Matthew said coldly. Gordon nodded repeatedly. “Understood, Boss.” The anxiety that had hung over Gordon for an hour or two finally subsided. Since Boss has told me not to listen to Ms. Shaw, I think it’s safe to say she was trying to scare me. This is a prized possession from the Late Middle Ages. I want to keep it as a family heirloom. The elevator swiftly descended toward the first floor. As the elevator reached somewhere above the twentieth floor, it suddenly jolted violently. Then, the lights in the entire elevator flickered three times before returning to normal. The men assumed it was nothing more than a minor elevator glitch.

However, the elevator suddenly started to descend rapidly. The speed was beyond the normal rate of descent. Even Matthew, who was always a steady man, showed a slight change in his expression. Am I going to die here? Gordon’s eyes widened. “Holy sh*t!” The lights in the elevator had completely dimmed. “Mr. Quigley!” Gordon cried out. As it turned out, he had claustrophobia. “Shut up!” Matthew commanded coldly. Just as the elevator was about to crash violently into the ground, it suddenly came to a halt. It was very eerie. The light that had just vanished suddenly illuminated the entire elevator once again. It was as if the recent anomaly was merely an illusion. Gordon gulped in fear and belatedly realized he was sitting in a corner in a state of utter disarray. And yet, Matthew remained unscathed, standing there without any noticeable change, except for his eyes, which seemed sharper than usual. In the aftermath of the calamity, Gordon, for reasons unknown, found his gaze drawn to the jade pendant he was wearing. F*ck! Is this for real? With that in mind, Gordon pulled it down in one swift motion, staring at it intently. “Why do I feel like Ms. Shaw wasn’t joking with me?” Matthew raised an eyebrow. He had never believed in such mysterious matters. He glanced at the top of the elevator and said, “Call the engineering department now. Have them come over and thoroughly inspect the elevators in the entire building to ensure they can function normally by tomorrow.” “Okay!” As Matthew stepped out of the elevator, Gordon, still somewhat shaken, asked, “Mr. Quigley, could you please inquire Ms. Shaw for me? Was she just joking around? Should I really stop wearing this thing?” Had the elevator incident not occurred earlier, Gordon definitely wouldn’t be as conflicted as he was at that moment. Matthew glanced at the exquisite and rare jade pendant in Gordon’s hand. “Keep wearing it. What happened earlier was just an accident.” The implication was that there was no need to take Aurelia’s words seriously. “I’ll call the engineers right now.” Gordon found it reasonable. It seems like the entire engineering department will have their bonuses docked! Boss was unexpectedly trapped in the elevator as he experienced a close call. No one is to sleep tonight. They’ll all be inspecting all the elevators throughout the night! When Matthew arrived at the Quigley residence, he saw Mabel, who hadn’t shown him much kindness in recent years, watching television with Aurelia, both of them smiling from ear to ear. A variety show was playing on the television.
