Since he had been dismissed, Lucas decided to leave. Just as he arrived at his car, his phone rang. It turned out to be Devina calling.
“Yes? What’s up?”
“Luc, can we meet right now?”
“What’s the matter?”
“There’s something important I want to discuss.”
“Alright, just come to my office. We can talk in my room, how about that?”
“Okay. I’ll be there in thirty minutes or an hour.”
After the call with Devina, Lucas hurriedly decided to return to the office. It had only been about fifteen minutes since he sat down when he heard a knock on his office door.
Suspicious, Lucas immediately invited whoever was outside to enter. He assumed it was Devina. However, when he looked up, he found Deasy standing before him.
“What are you doing in my office?” Lucas asked, his voice sounding cold.
Deasy slowly raised her head, attempting to meet Lucas’s gaze, then took a few steps forward to place a red and brown folder that she had intentionally brought for Lucas.
“I want to hand over the company’s financial report that I’ve been keeping. Along with bank statements and the books. Everything is in the process of being transferred. I assure you that all the company’s funds will be returned in full.”
Lucas reached for the folder that Deasy indicated. He opened it, then carefully examined the documents inside.
“Alright. That means I won’t have to bother reminding you to return what doesn’t belong to you.”
“Don’t worry, Luc. I’ve returned everything. And in the other folder, there’s my resignation letter that you can approve immediately. Besides, I’m sure you won’t want to keep an employee who deliberately tried to destroy the company.”
Lucas nodded again. In movies, you often see the male lead trying to stop his girlfriend from leaving. However, Lucas was different. He didn’t try to stop Deasy from leaving the company at all.
“Alright. I’ll sign immediately and ask HR to handle everything. Once it’s done, you can leave my office.”
Deasy gazed at Lucas’s face. Instead of leaving, she mustered the courage to take a step closer.
“Luc…”
“What else, Des? What else do you want to discuss?”
“Do you really not forgive me, Luc? It doesn’t matter if you want to take this case to the authorities. What’s important to me is your forgiveness.”
Lucas chuckled softly. Deasy had been so serious in her statement.
“Don’t worry. I’m not a vengeful person. I forgive you. As for the crimes you’ve committed, don’t worry about it. Papa won’t bring this case to the authorities. And as for your past grudges, I think you should reevaluate them. I believe you’ve had a misconception all this time.”
“So, what about our relationship? Is there really no chance for us to get back together? I swear, Luc, I didn’t mean to play with your feelings.”
Lucas shook his head. His face displayed a serious expression.
“As I mentioned earlier, Des, we can’t be together.”
“But, Luc, I-”NôvelDrama.Org owns © this.
“That’s enough, Des. I think our conversation ends here. Besides, I have an important guest coming soon. If you need help packing, I’ll ask Felix to assist you.”
Deasy could only sigh. Resigned to Lucas’s seemingly cold demeanor, she finally chose to leave the room.
It was the first time she felt such pain and heartache when the person she truly loved ignored her and seemed unwilling to meet her.

“Des, you have your prenatal check-up tonight, right?”
After work, Veronica deliberately picked up Deasy and joined her friend for a short gathering at her apartment.
Knowing that Deasy had a prenatal check-up scheduled for tonight, Veronica offered to accompany her. Normally, it was Lucas’s duty, but since they were currently at odds, Veronica decided to take over temporarily. Plus, it would be a pity for Deasy to go alone without the usual company.
Deasy had been looking downcast since earlier. Veronica was sure that her friend was dealing with a heavy problem.
“Yes, I have a check-up scheduled for tonight.”
“I’ll accompany you and take you there, alright?”
“No need, Ve,” Deasy declined as she sorted her belongings into the wardrobe. “I have number 10. It might take a while to get my turn, and by the time it’s done, it’ll be quite late. Your baby might be looking for you.”
Veronica smiled and shook her head.
“Don’t worry, my baby is sleeping at his father’s house tonight. So, he won’t be looking for me. Besides, Darwin isn’t home either. He’s on a business trip to Korea until Sunday. Instead of staying home alone and getting bored, I’d rather keep you company.”
Deasy nodded and tried to smile. She appreciated how Veronica was always willing to help and be there for her, especially during tough times.
“Thanks a lot, Ve. Thanks for taking the time to pick me up and keep me company.”
“It’s no big deal. You’d do the same for me if I were in your shoes. Besides, what’s with the sad face? Everything is sorted out at the office, right? The most important thing is that you’ve done what needed to be done. Let’s not dwell on it too much. And, if you stress too much, your baby will be affected.”
“Yeah, Ve. You’re right.”
“If you have any other problems, just tell me, Des. I said from the beginning that I’ll help as much as I can.”
“I know, Ve.”
“Alright, in that case, let’s have dinner first. Your favorite meal is getting cold in that bag I brought.”
Veronica pointed to a white bag containing Deasy’s dinner, which she had brought along. She suggested that Deasy eat first so she wouldn’t be hungry, especially since they would be at the hospital for a while.
“Eat until you’re full. After dinner, we’ll get ready, and I’ll take you directly to the hospital.”
Although initially reluctant, Deasy eventually agreed. She chose to have dinner and then change her clothes, preparing to leave for the hospital with Veronica.
Once they arrived at the hospital and were waiting in line, Deasy and Veronica decided to wait for a while. Just as her name was called, Deasy halted her steps. She stopped for a moment and observed with keen interest when she saw Lucas and Devina emerging from the obstetrician’s office.
This raised a big question in Deasy’s mind. What were Lucas and Devina doing there?
