My Mute Wife

Chapter 81 Fake Death Hoax Turns Deadly

“Did Grandpa really make her sign the divorce papers?”

Tina looked back at her assistant.

“Mr. Stanley gave her a cheque for 10 million and had her sign it, I saw the agreement with my own eyes, there would be no fakes.”

“So, she’s moving from here?”

“In the next two days, I suppose.”

Tina snorted coldly, “Then what are you waiting for? Without the status as Mrs. Howard, a cripple like her won’t even have someone to collect her body when she dies.”

The dark clouds in the sky are slowly approaching towards the sky over J City, and according to the weather forecast, a storm is coming.

It was already dark when Lexie returned to the resort.

“Mrs. Howard, why do you look so pale?”

[Nothing, I want to take a break].

Lexie felt no energy at all. After driving for two hours, she had already used up her last bit of energy and fell asleep as soon as she got back to her room, without even changing her clothes.

The nightmare came as expected, and the man’s roughness in the dream was even worse than in reality, and Lexie kept struggling but couldn’t seem to escape.

Little by little the night swallowed up the resort.

“Mr. Alan.”

In the living room, the maid picked up Alan’s suit, “You are back early today, have you eaten?”

Alan nodded slightly, “Where is Lexie? Is she back yet?”

“She is back in the evening, but she didn’t look good and didn’t eat dinner.”

At that, Alan’s brow furrowed.

The bedroom was silent, a figure wrapped in a blanket on the bed, waking abruptly when she heard the door open.

As soon as Alan pushed the door open, he saw Lexie looking at him with her eyes open, her eyes covered with panic.

The air seemed to freeze as the four eyes met.

“Have some food.”

He entered with a bowl of porridge.

[I’m not hungry.]

“Eat some,” Alan said, passing the spoon to her mouth.

With the afternoon’s events fresh in her mind, Lexie dared not resist and took a sip with her head bowed.

“Is it hot?”

Lexie shook her head and cowered.

“Have more.”

Alan fed her with porridge as nothing had eve happened. Lexie felt she couldn’t understand him, as if in his eyes, some things would pass with the appropriate punishment for him.

After finishing the porridge, Alan said, “I’ll come pick you up tomorrow night to move back to the city.”

[Does Grandpa agree?]

“You don’t need anyone’s permission but mine to live where you are.”

Lexie clutched the sheet beneath her, bitterness in her throat.

Thinking about what happened this afternoon, Alan felt some regret in his heart and extended his hand towards Lexie.

Lexie subconsciously avoided it, and his hand gave a slight pause, still pinning a strand of her hair in front of her forehead behind her ear, and then holding the back of her head, his eyes gradually contracting.

“I know you’re upset about what happened today, but when you’re around me, you should know what to do and what not to do.”

Lexie was stunned.

“Do you hear me?” The force on her neck tightened.

[Got it.]

“I have business to attend to tonight, so you’ll sleep alone.”

After saying this, Alan left from the bedroom.

The sound of rain soon sounded outside, and Lexie pulled back the curtains to watch the black car drive away from downstairs and into the night.

She sent a message to Myles with only the time, “Tomorrow at 2pm.”

As the rain grew heavier and ‘booming’ thunder split over the sky, no one noticed two men in black mackintoshes sneaking around the corner of the estate approaching a white car.

In the following day, J City was covered in torrential rain.

Lexie simply packed some things and left from the summer resort.

Stanley stood at the window of his study, his face more gloomy than the weather.

“Mr. Stanley, Mr. Alan is still young and impetuous and doesn’t understand that you are doing him a favour, but you don’t need to worry too much about it, Mrs. Howard looks like a peaceful person without the support of her father’s family.”

“In the position of Mrs. Howard, is it enough to be peaceful? If you don’t look for trouble, trouble will come to you.”

“What are you worried about?”

Stanley didn’t bother to say more, “Wait and see.”

In the Mountain Road, signs with ‘Beware of slippery roads, slow down’ swept across the rear view mirror.

Lexie held the steering wheel and glanced at the navigator out of the corner of her eye.

It was almost time to get to the appointed place.

As she rounded the corner, she switched on the brakes and but the speed of slowing down could not catch up.

What was going on?

Lexie jerked the steering wheel and barely made it through the bend with the sharp sound of the brakes, breaking out in a cold sweat.

On the windscreen, the windscreen wipers constantly brushed the torrential rain away.

The brakes had completely failed.

Alan was talking to someone in the clubhouse about a business deal.

“Then I will have less 20%, as a good faith offer for our sincere cooperation with the Howard Group.”

“You have a long-term vision.”

After seeing the boss off, Alan stood up to button his suit.

Jack, who had been waiting at the door, then hurried in, “Mr. Alan, something has happened to Mrs. Howard.”

“The people we left behind on Tina’s side made enquiries early this morning and found out that Tina had made a move on Mrs. Howard’s car and half an hour ago, Mrs. Howard drove herself down the hill.”

“Why don’t you tell me earlier?” An angry voice echoed through the compartment.

Jack was in a cold sweat, “You were just in business, I …”

“Give me the car keys.”

Alan’s face was gloomy and frightening as he grabbed the car keys and headed out.

The rain was getting heavier and heavier, with multiple hill collapses already causing serious road traffic problems as the storm washed over the area, with live news coverage of the emergency repairs on site.

In the middle of the mountain road, Lexie was desperately slamming on the brakes all the way, still unable to slow down.

The car was kept at eighty at all times, which was already a serious speeding situation on a mountain road in stormy weather.

The mobile phone rang.

Lexie thought it was Myles, so she managed to press the answer key.

“Where are you now? Stop the car right now!”

A low growl came.

Lexie shuddered in fear, and with a shaky hand, almost hit the guardrail of the bend.

The harsh scraping of wheels against the ground echoed in the ears and reached the other side.

“Is there something wrong with the car?”

“Lexie!”

“Damn it!”

Alan’s growl came over the phone, angry and agitated, yet helpless, simply because Lexie was unable to give him any response at all.

The phone suddenly hung up, as if hanging up the last ray of hope, and Lexie’s mind was already a muddle.

The hoax that she had arranged to fake her own death had actually turned out to be a dead end!

In desperation, the phone rang again.

The moment the man’s cold face appeared on the screen, Lexie realized he had made a video call.

“Listen, when I ask you something, all you have to do is nod or shake your head.”

“Are the brakes failing?”

“And the handbrake doesn’t work?”

“Okay, listen, you drive towards the East Coast State Highway now and don’t panic.”

The East Coast State Highway? This was the opposite of her planned route.

As they spoke, the car was already driving to the agreed location. Through the windscreen and the constantly turning windscreen wipers, Lexie caught a glimpse of a familiar figure standing on the roadside, it was Myles.
