My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0499

Chapter 0499

Sieg didn't like to guess others' thoughts, he just felt that he was not suitable to stay here right now.

After entering the elevator, he sent a message to a young model he was dating. His family had recently started preparing for a forced blind date, and he estimated he wouldn't be able to have fun for much longer.

As a result, he ran into Yana downstairs, who was holding a child.

Sieg's steps halted. Yana had previously mentioned that the child was her illegitimate daughter.

He walked over to Yana. "Yana, when did you start working as a nanny on the side?"

Yana, annoyed at seeing him, retorted, "None of your business."

He didn't want to argue with her either. He was about to leave. However, just before leaving, he took his first good look at Ellis's appearance.

His gaze paused slightly, and then his brow furrowed more and more.

Seeing him staring at Ellis, Yana became alert. "Why are you staring at us?"

Sieg retracted his gaze, hiding his shock. "Nothing, just looking at Candice's child. After all, we're old friends, so I should give a present, right?"

"Who cares about your gift, it's dirty," Yana muttered, quickly taking Ellis upstairs.

-

Alex's wound reopened again, so he had to stay in the hospital for a few more days. Due to tea, it became infected, and he had a fever.

Candice still called Sawyer and she didn't leave until he arrived.

Yana only found out about this later and asked while holding Ellis, "What should we do? Are you still leaving now?" NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.

Candice had previously said that she would leave Dorrington City when Alex was discharged from the hospital, but now he was back in the hospital again.

She remained silent.

But Yana could already guess the answer. Candice had a strong sense of responsibility; she would always remember that Alex had been injured while protecting her. So, without seeing Alex fully recovered, she probably couldn't make up her mind to leave for the time being.

Alex's injury once again alarmed Shawn. Previously, Alex was afraid that Shawn would worry, so he didn't let anyone inform him, but this time, he couldn't hide it because of Helen's fuss.

Candice didn't know the details, but she heard that Shawn personally transferred all the shares in his hands to Alex and demoted Oscar's position at Aether Corporation.

-

The day Shawn called, Candice had just finished talking to Hanley. Hanley was returning to Dorrington City the day after tomorrow.

Shawn said he wanted to meet her. She agreed and went directly to the hospital to find him.

However, the problem was that Yana was busy with work these two days and couldn't help take care of Ellis. She could only grit her teeth and bring Ellis with her to meet Shawn.

Sure enough, when Shawn saw Ellis for the first time, his eyes widened. "Is... is she who I think?"

Candice didn't answer but instead asked, "You said you wanted to see me for something. What is it?"

Shawn had originally wanted to talk to Candice about Alex's injury and the problem of William, but now, seeing Ellis, who looked almost exactly like Alex when he was a child, he couldn't remember those things anymore.

He looked at Ellis in astonishment and seemed both excited and incredulous.

Candice was prepared for this, so she remained calm.

After Shawn's huge surprise, he fumbled around in his bag for a gift but couldn't find one. In the end, he simply took out a bank card Bruno had prepared and handed it to Ellis. "Good child, good child, this is Grandpa's gift for meeting you."

Candice wanted to stop him, but Ellis had already taken the bank card as a toy, looking very happy.

Shawn asked Candice, "What's her name?"

"Her full name is Ellis Renault, and her nickname is Baby Mulberry."

Shawn was initially taken aback, then burst into laughter. Seeing this, Candice lowered her gaze and withdrew the bank card from Ellis's hand, handing it back to him. "Ellis is my daughter."

She had nothing to do with the Elysian family.

There was a moment of disappointment in Shawn's eyes. "Yes, she's your daughter. That rascal doesn't deserve her."

Candice had a strong protective instinct towards Ellis, which Shawn could also see. Although he felt regretful, he didn't try to get closer to Ellis.

Alex was still in his hospital room. Since Candice had come, she followed Shawn to take a look.

He was recovering well. His gaze first fell on Candice, then shifted to Ellis in her arms. His voice was hoarse from not drinking water for too long. "Why did you bring her here today?"

"Yana went to work." Candice didn't explain much. She didn't have much to say to Alex. Shawn had just mentioned Alex's situation and the Zanford family's affairs, so she had to come and see him.

Shawn didn't stay for long. He went back to his room with Bruno. He was still recuperating himself.

There were only three people left in the hospital room. Besides Ellis's occasional babbling, there was nothing else.

Alex sat on the hospital bed, his attention irresistibly drawn to Ellis. The fair and delicate little girl lay in Candice's arms, playing with her own fingers and smiling.

His pitch-black eyes gradually softened, as if covered with a layer of soft clouds, carrying tenderness and caution.

As if afraid that his gaze would be too intense and scare Ellis away.

But the warmth lasted only a moment. He seemed to remember something, and that softness receded, turning into a gray mist.

His voice was tight, speaking slowly and laboriously. "Candice."

She raised her eyes, her emotions indifferent.

Alex closed his eyes and asked, "Were you scared when she was born?"

Candice's eyelashes trembled. She didn't expect Alex to ask such a question.

Scared?

Of course, she was scared.

She had been alone in South City. Even though Hanley's friends helped, she’d had to do many things by herself. Especially when things had changed from natural childbirth to a cesarean section halfway through. She hadn't been able to exert any strength, but still had to tremble and sign the consent form herself. At that moment, Candice had actually been very close to collapse and wanted to give up.

Loneliness was fleeting, but at that moment, the only light shining on her had been the glaring light in the operating room.

A strange environment, unfamiliar people, and a surgery with uncertain outcomes.

How could she not have felt despair?

But she had gotten through those things. She had gritted her teeth and got through it bit by bit.

Now that Alex asked her if she had been scared, how could she answer?

She remained silent for a while before saying, "It's okay."

“I'm sorry." Alex's voice was very light. "Candice, I'm sorry."

Candice sat silently for a while, unmoving, before speaking. "It's useless to say that."

After saying that, she picked up Ellis and left.

Alex leaned against the hospital bed, as if he could still feel the lingering breath of Candice in the room. He raised his wrist to cover his reddening eyes, his jawline tense.

She was right. His apology was indeed useless.

He was just a bastard. The biggest bastard in the world.
