Chapter 197
Carson didn’t beat around the bush with his question.
There was also a sense of relishing the drama without caring about the consequences.
Mason and lindsay leaned against the windowsill, engaging in gossip, and found the scene before them eerily reminiscent of king selecting a suitor for his beloved princess.
Choose at your whim, and if they were chosen, they were welcomed into the palace.
Marce and Lucas simultaneously turned their heads, their intense gazes fixed on Pearl. It was clear they were eager for her response.
They wanted her to choose them, yet dreaded her picking someone else.
for a moment a palpable tension filled the room.
midst the watchful gaze of the crowd. Pearl stood with an impassive expression, pointing at Lucas with an icy demeanor. She umed to Carson and said. “This one, he’s not a good guy”
Carson fell silent
She then gestured toward Marc with a slight wave. And this one, he’s even worse.”
Carson hesitated for a moment, then broke into laughter.
Locax, who had been on the verge of defending himself, suddenly found relief in Pearl’s words about Marc. He laughed heartily and remarked “Did you hear that? You’re even worse than me.”
Marc didn’t take offense to Pearls words. Instead, he played along, saying. “I’ve never been much of a saint.”
He considered himself a unique individual.
Pearl had no patience for their banter, and she had no intention of allowing them to disturb Carson’s peaceful recovery. With em expression, she was about to usher them out when the hospital room door swung open once more, revealing a striking
face
‘Connor What brings you here!”
Pearl was mildly surprised as she approached taking the food container from him.
Connor was dressed casually, his smile as bright as a summer’s day. “I dropped by to deliver dinner and pay a visit to Carson.”
He greeted the others and glanced briefly at Marc and Lucas before approaching the bedside. “Hello, Carson, I’m Connor. I’ve
tupped up a feast for you tonight. I hope my culinary skills meet your approval”
Carson, a self–professed foodie, couldn’t contain his excitement. “Sounds fantastic, Connor! You’re friends with Pearl, right?”
In the blink of an eye, he assumed the role of a matchmaker, grinning like a naughty cupid. “Are you also a friend of Pearl’s? How old are you, by the way
Connor cast a delong glance at Pearl, his gaze sincere and obedient. “Carson, I just turned twenty this year, and I’ll be twenty-
Twenty, well, that’s a tad young”
Carios mumbled a few words under his breath before laughing heartily. “However, May–December romances have their charm. If you marry Pearl, your won’t just have a fortune. You’ll have the keys to kingdoms of riches at your disposal.”
He
etting more into it by the moment
Pearl face turned stem. “Carson”
Carson noticing Pearl growing irritation, wisely decided not to push his luck with any more comments.

“Alright, alright, you don’t need to get all fired up. You’ll each have to prove yourselves, though. Pearl might have a fiery temper, but she’s a true gem and the perfect choice for a loving and wise partner
Marc, Lucas, and Connor all turned their attention toward Pearl.
Pearl was burning with anger. “What are you all staring at? Keep on looking, and I’ll have your eyes gouged out!”
Whether she was the ideal wife remained open to debate, but one thing was clear–she had an undeniable fiery spirit.
When the attending doctor walked in for a follow–up examination, they were visibly startled by the crowded room. Without hesitation, they ordered everyone out, emphasizing the immediate need for Carson to get some rest.
With the unexpected guests swiftly ushered out of the hospital room, Mason couldn’t help but recall the earlier scene. He leaned in and proposed to Pearl, “Ms. Woolery, have you ever considered starting your royal court? I bet there’d be a line out the door of people vying for a spol.”
Pearl shot him a sideways glance, retorting, “Sure, you can be my royal consort, and I’ll arrange Lindsay for someone che
Mason quickly backtracked, embracing Lindsay and proclaiming, “No way, she’s mine!”
Blushing, Lindsay leaned into Mason’s embrace, neither confirming nor denying his claim.
Pearl couldn’t help but roll her eyes. Love was such a sentimental affair.
Carson still felt a bit lightheaded with shaky hands due to the surgery. The doctor reassured him that these were typical postoperative symptoms and advised him to take it easy.
After seeing off the doctor, Pearl noticed the three men hadn’t left the room. She immediately adop
“Are you all planning to stick around and have me feed you every meal?”
Lucas grinned and pushed his luck, “Well, it’s not entirely out of the question.”
Pearl’s response was unequivocal, “Get out!”
a stern tone.
Lucas was so startled that he yanked Connor over and sought refuge behind him, poking his head out cautiously. “With such a fiery temper, you might have trouble finding a spouse.”
Pearl narrowed her eyes at him, and he quickly made a hasty escape, shouting as he ran. “No worries, I adore your fiery personality. If you ever decide to establish a royal court, count me in. I don’t mind sharing a wife with other men.”
Pearl couldn’t believe how utterly absurd Lucas was!
If she did indeed establish a royal court, the first person she’d have banished would be him!
Seeing that Pearl was visibly irritated and exasperated, Connor decided it was best to leave. He bid her goodbye and returned. to work in the dining area.
Ultimately, only one audacious and somewhat oblivious figure remained – Marc.
“Is Carson okay?” he asked in a hushed tone.
Pearl felt a knot in her chest. She held her frustration in check, considering that he had acted promptly to help Carson. She replied in a subdued voice, “He’s fine. He’s getting up there in age, so he can’t handle too much excitement.”
As she spoke, she suddenly remembered something she had forgotten to ask. “How did you end up at Rose Garden? Emily mentioned that you delivered an invitation”
Knowing she would inevitably ask this question, Marc had no intention of concealing the truth from her.
“Yes, I’ve come here as an apprentice of Wade, seeking an opportunity to collaborate with Mr. Carson.”
Pearl’s eyebrows suddenly knitted together in thought.
While savoring the dinner brought by Connor, Pearl inquired about Marc’s purpose in coming to Rose Garden to meet
Carson and discuss potential cooperation.
Carson repliest. “Mate has a deep commestion with me. He’s both an apprentice of Wade and the grandson of Brooke. In a way, he’s almost like another grandson las nie.”
The older man fondly shared tales of their past, stories that Pearl has never heard Carson share before.
“Back in the day, Wade, Brooke, and I were like kindred spirits. We formed a brotherhood akin to The Three Heroes of Peach Grove excelled in carving. Wade was a master of authentication, and Brooke had a talent for trading. The three of us ventured far and wide in the antique marketplace, and there wasn’t a soul who had yet to hear of the Three Heroes of Pearli Grove Yet our pursuit of wealth often led us into conflicts, and there was a time when we laveil our fair share of troubles Looking back now, we were filled with youthful exuberance.”
Carson sighed and continued, “Now that we’re all getting on in years, with one foot already in the grave, we want to make the most of our remaining vitality. We want to meet new people and perhaps leave behind a few timeless pieces for future
generations
He didn’t hide anything from Pearl and mentioned that Mare had come to discuss a project related to repairing damaged jade artifacts.
1 hope this project doesnt conflict with your work.”
Carson continued to harbor more significant concern for Pearl. “I understand that Males Group and Woolery Group are competitors, and I wouldn’t want it to cause you any inconvenience or hinder your endeavors. If it does, I won’t agree to it.”
Pearl knew that Carson had always harbored a deep passion for jade carving and had dedicated his later years to antique restoration, so he was definitely intrigued by Marc’s proposal.
Mare was undoubtedly quite cunning.
He must have learned about the connection between Carson and their shared history with Mr. Miller. It appeared he also had an astute understanding of what genuinely interested Carson, cleverly pivoting Males Jewelry’s focus toward antique
estoration–a move that aligned perfectly with Carson’s aspirations.
Projects involving antique restoration had the potential to enhance a company’s reputation and image significantly. It seemed. that he had taken her advice from her previous conversation with Niamh to heart.
You’ve embraced the idea, haven’t you? You don’t need to worry. The project they want to embark on doesn’t conflict with Woolery Group’s initiatives”
Pearl wanted Carson to pursue his true passions without any regrets.
“In that case, I can finally breathe easy.”
Carson heaved a sigh of relief. However, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was amiss as he observed Pearl’s expression. “Pearl have you and Marc known each other for many years? I can’t help but notice that you two seem exceptionally well–matched, and your personalities complement each other….
“You’ve got it all wrong. Carson, Our horoscopes clash, and our personalities don’t quite align.”
Pearl decisively put an end to the connection Carson was attempting to establish. She took a tissue, wiped her mouth, and declared. The story between us has ended, and there won’t be any future together?
“What do you mean by that?”
Carson sensed something amiss and couldn’t help but let his curiosity get the best of him again. “So, did you two ever date? Or break up!
We never dated and we never broke up”
Carson exhaled with a sense of relief. “Oh

Pearl remained composed as she calmly stated. “Carson, Marc is my ex–husband.”
Carson was left speechless, his mind reeling. Ex–husband?!!!
