Chapter 12
Chapter 12 Five Brothers
Gwen woke up in a luxurious bedroom belonging to an Elarian–style building. The decorations and the furniture in the room were left exactly how she had remembered when she had left years ago.
She turned around to see a bowl of warm soup on the nightstand next to her. There were even a few beautiful outfits laid out on the bed for her to pick from.
For some reason, Gwen could feel her nose starting to tingle with emotions. She had never received such treatment during her time in Bellmont.
“Grandpa was extremely anxious when he found out about the plane crash. He tried to call you, but he couldn’t get in touch with you. It led to his cardiac arrest getting triggered. He’s still bedridden as we speak.”
A pair of steady footsteps echoed for a few moments. Soon, a tall and well–built man in black appeared inside Gwen’s bedroom. He looked quite domineering and intimidating.
This was Henry, Gwen’s eldest brother, who had personally traveled to Bellmont just to take her back to Dornwick. He was the current patriarch of the Lawson family who often maintained a cold and stony exterior.
When Gwen heard that her grandfather, Marlon Lawson, had fallen ill, she was so anxious that she almost burst into tears. “Henry, is Grandpa-”
“He’s fine. He’s currently on bed rest. But you, on the other hand…”
Henry grabbed Gwen’s hand immediately and stopped her from leaving. “Just look at you right now. I can’t believe you still have the gall to meet Grandpa! Do you still remember the promise you made back then?”
Gwen stopped in her tracks instantly after hearing her brother’s words. Naturally, she would never forget what that promise was.
She had promised Marlon that she’d stay in the Lawson family forever and help out with the Lawsons‘ business if she failed to make Jake fall in love with her–or worse, got a divorce with him.
In fact, she’d even follow the family’s orders by getting roped into a marriage alliance with the Quinns, which was also one of the four greatest families. That way, she’d be able to help expand the Lawsons‘ business empire.
Since Henry mentioned that promise out of the blue, could it be that the Lawsons were planning to arrange her second marriage for her this soon? She heard that the Lawson heir was a notorious playboy.
“But I just got divorced. I have no plans of getting married for now. Henry, please…” Gwen looked at Henry pleadingly. Henry’s icy heart melted at the sight of his little sister’s expression. Even his voice was noticeably gentler than usual. He had planned to intimidate her by bringing up the promise, after all.
“You’re a daughter of the Lawson family. We don’t plan on marrying the women of our family in exchange for money, but you need to recompose yourself as soon as possible. You’ll work as my right–hand woman for the time being, at least until Grandpa makes a full recovery.”
What Henry meant was that Gwen would have to join Savant Group, which was a company based in Dornwick. Back then, the Lawsons had drafted Gwen into Eutropolis School of Business because they wanted her to work in Savant
Group.

Both Henry and Marlon must have been resentful because of this.
“Okay.” Gwen would gladly agree to any condition as long as she didn’t have to marry another man right away.
Henry gazed at Gwen seriously before finally grunting in response. His heart ached for her because of what she had endured, but at the same time, he was greatly disappointed in her.
Hopefully, this failure of a marriage would serve as a painful lesson to her.
“Sic.
At that moment, someone knocked on the bedroom door gently before opening it. It was a female secretary who followed Henry around.
“Hall Group of Bellmont City has voiced its protests about its disqualification from the medical expo. The CEO would like to make an appointment to meet up with you in order to discuss the details.”
Gwen was stunned to hear the news. “Henry, you…”
H
It turned out that Henry had already begun his attack on the Halls right after picking her up from Bellmont. His attack was swift, precise, and definitely brutal.
The reason why Jake didn’t care about the medical expo was because he knew that Gwen would definitely handle the project expertly. But who would’ve thought that something so drastic would occur at the very last minute?
“I did this mainly to let you know that we Lawsons will never let anyone bully you. You should know what to do next.” Once Henry was done saying his piece, he had a feeling that Gwen knew what to do next. So, he patted her on the shoulder gently before leaving the room with his secretary.
At the same time, he said to the secretary, “Over the next few days, I want you to take Gwen under your wing. Let her familiarize herself with all of Savant Group’s major industrial zones as well as the duties within the job scope of the CEO’s executive assistant.”
“Got it, Mr. Lawson.”
Their voices soon faded into the distance. Gwen’s bedroom was silent once again.
The CEO’s executive assistant… That position was second to only the CEO. Gwen clenched her fists tightly. This time, she mustn’t disappoint Henry and betray his trust.

The day after Gwen started working in an office located on the top floor of Savant Group, a seemingly laid–back figure barged into her office.
“Surprise!”
