Chapter 50
Chapter 50
Zoe only had a few goals in life, which was to cure her dad's illness, rescue her brother, and start a new life as a happy family. But evidently, fate had different plans for her.
Mason was not planning to let her go, either.
That night, while performing at the Imperial Hotel, she received a call from Ella. Ella's voice was urgent. "Zoe, come to the hospital quickly! Something's wrong!"
Zoe's heart skipped a beat.
She hurriedly asked, "What's going on?"
Ella paused before whispering, "A conflict broke out between Mia and Lilith. It's quite a scene, and the police are involved. Zoe, be mentally prepared... Mia might be taken away."
The phone slipped from Zoe's hand.
In the end, it was Leslie who drove Zoe to the hospital. Luckily, it was not far, and they arrived at the scene in less than half an hour.
However, Zoe was still a step too late.
When she arrived, Mia had already been taken away.
The scene was chaotic, with the entire Wright family present. Carly cradled Lilith's burned arm, wailing about how her daughter's beauty had been ruined and demanding Mia pay the price.
Eric kept his head down.
What surprised Zoe the most was that Mason had also rushed over, accompanied by Ava.
As soon as he arrived, Lilith threw herself into his arms, appearing frail.
Carly suddenly became pitiful, crying and complaining, "She couldn't walk, and now her arms are scarred. How can Lilith live like this?"
A nurse reminded, "The patient needs to deal with the wounds quickly, or there might be scarring."
However, Lilith's wheelchair was broken.
After futilely pushing it a couple of times, it would not budge.
Mason bent down, lifting her into his arms, intending to place her on a stretcher. When he looked up, his gaze met Zoe's.
Zoe blinked gently.
She watched her husband caring for another woman so tenderly. Clearly, he had chosen the latter between a wife and a lover.
Mason also gazed back at her. Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
For a while, Zoe remained silent.
Suddenly, Mason gave up on the stretcher, carrying Lilith directly into the elevator. Lilith's arm was in intense pain, but her vanity was satisfied at this moment. Nestled in Mason's arms, she gave Zoe a triumphant smile.
People around whispered.
"That is such a romantic gesture."
"Look, no matter how good-looking the wife is, it's useless. It's true love!"
"I bet the guy will definitely get a divorce!"
…
There were many reporters on the scene. It felt as if Zoe had been slapped in the face in public.
Seeing her daughter gain the upper hand, Carly decided to take advantage of the situation. Out of the blue, she delivered a resounding slap to Zoe's face. "If anything happens to Lilith, I'll make your stepmother pay with her life."
Carly missed and hit the side of Zoe's face.
It did not hurt much, but this slap was a wake-up call for Zoe's life. This slap made her past sacrifices seem ridiculous and her endurance for the three years of marriage even more cruel.
The elevator door slowly closed on the other side, and Mason carried Lilith inside.
Mason's gaze was deep and inscrutable.
Zoe stood motionless.
She thought, 'The outcome of not being loved is unexpectedly so pathetic.'
…
Inside the elevator, even Ava felt something was amiss.
No matter how Zoe was, she was still Mrs. Lockwood. Carly dared to slap her in the face publicly.
Ava knew Mason well and could not help glancing at him.
Mason's expression was blank.
Lilith coquettishly called out. "Mason."
Mason glanced at Eric, who immediately opened his arms to take his daughter. "Let me carry her. I don't want to trouble you, Mr. Mason."
