Healing The 76
Healing The 76
Sihana’s POV
“You’re freaking out.”
“I am freaking out,” I agreed with my mate.
Finished.
Hours had passed since I tried and failed to heal Sam and I still did not know why my abilities failed to
manifest.
“Stop freaking out,” Cahir all but commanded. I learnt early that he only knew how to deal with a specific range of emotions so I wasn’t surprised at his reaction
out of
“I can’t,” I responded, staring at my hands with so much intensity, one would think I wanted lasers to shoot my eyes. “What’s happening?” My words were choked even to my ears. “I don’t–I don’t understand.” I let Cahir gather me into his arms and move me to his thighs. I let him push my face into his chest and I let his familiar and calming scent wash over me.
“The doctor will be here in a minute so there’s no need to freak out,” he assured me but I wasn’t assured.
How would a doctor explain the sudden loss of my healing power? In Alpha Blood, there were only two of us who had the kiss of the goddess. Me, and a warrior who was not on pack lands at the
moment. The doctor was an ordinary doctor, not a healer so what would they know about this?
“Cahir, 1 – I’m scared,” I admitted, clutching his shirt hard to stop my hands from trembling. “What if What if –“What if ver got my power back?
Omegas had no reason to bear the goddess‘ kiss in the first place. What if our goddess realized her mistake and took back her blessing? I’d become too used to being a healer in the past months that it was unfathomable for me to suddenly be powerless.
I felt it in the stillness in my body, the calmness in my blood and the quietness in my mind. Until I lost the ability, ver noticed the quiet hum of power inside me, but now that I lost it, now that it was quiet inside, without any mana humming in my blood, I felt the loss like a sucker punch.
“There’s no need to be scared.” Cahir kissed my forehead.
I’d left his office with sizzling anger and a twinge of hurt but when I tried and tried again to heal Sam, failing every time, I’d staggered, feeling the ground rushing up to meet me but my mate had been there to stop my fall.
“There’s an explanation for this. There has to be.” His palm grazed my bicep “You’ll be back to normal. soon, I promise.” It wasn’t in his place to promise me something like that. This was totally out of his control but he spoke with so much confidence and sincerity that I had no choice but to believe him.
“Okay“My voice came out small and timid. “If you say so.” I would believe it because I had no choice for the time being.
“Alpha.” A knock sounded on our bedroom door. “The doctors are here.”
Doctors?
“Let them in,” Cahir called to the person knocking. The door opened and Tony led in two women and a
B
“Alpha, Luna.” They barred their necks and introduced themselves.

“My mate seems to have lost the ability to heal,” Cahir waved away their greetings and went straight to the point. “Her temperature is also alarming.” I felt my forehead and noted that I was burning up but inside I felt cold.
The women shared a look but the man was the first to speak.
“Loss of healing abilities are unfortunately outside of our expertise but for her temperature, we may have
to run some tests.”
I tried to wriggle out of Cahir’s lap as the man stepped forward with a thermometer, but his hand clamped around my waist, unwilling to let me go.
“Ah, it’s indeed quite high,” the man said when he took the thermometer.
“It’s possible the sudden loss of your healing ability has caused this,” one of the women said.
“But But why?” Why did I lose my power? How would I get it back? “How can I lose my powers?”
“This is truly outside our expertise, Luna. You will have to visit the goddess‘ temple and ask one of the priestesses. However, I’ve read in a reputable journal that hormonal changes can affect the goddess kiss,” the shorter of the two women said.
“Really?” My brows furrowed and I bit my bottom lip. If that was the case, my powers should be back soon, right? “Does that mean it’s not permanent?”
“Unfortunately, I can’t give a definite answer to that question.”
“Are you on any medication or have you changed your prescription recently?” The man asked. I shook my head but then paused.
“I did start taking birth control pills.” But I’d been taking them for a while now and asides from the initial breakout of hives I had the first week and the tiredness, there had been no side effects.
“Is it from Greyson Pharmaceuticals?” I nodded. Greyson Pharmaceuticals were one of the two pharmaceuticals in our world.
“Those have the least side effects, that’s why they are so popular. How long have you been taking them?” Content property of NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“Three weeks,” I responded to every question diligently
The doctors spoke with calm voices. I didn’t know if it was their age or their auras, but I trusted them and the way they spoke made me relax. The initial panic of losing my powers subsided with time.
“Have there been any changes in your lifestyle recently?” The taller woman asked. I shook my head but Cahir spok
“Yes. She’s been burying herself under piles of books all in the name of research,” he said, his tone less than pleasant. I hid my face in his chest.
He continually warned me about overworking myself in the name of research but ver listened, thinking he just didn’t want me trying to “fix” him, as he said. Had I overworked myself to the point of losing my powers?

“Stress does cause hormonal changes,” one of the doctors said. The others nodded in agreement. “How about your diet? There’s a new fad diet these days that has people fainting. Have you changed your diet?” | shook my head. Come to think of it, I had had nothing all day and it was already evening yet I wasn’t hungry.
“Well, there’s nothing definite,” the man said. “You may be experiencing changes in your body because of the change in pack and all the stress of being a Luna which may cause hormonal changes. As my colleague said, that can make your abilities act out. All these, however, are mere speculations. You will have to come into the clinic tomorrow and I’d advise you to reach out to the temple for further information.
“Oh Okay.” I deflated although I wasn’t surprised. We hadn’t expected the doctors to have the answers we needed but it didn’t stop my disappointment.
“There’s no need to be disappointed, Luna. The shorter woman said with a smile. “Your abilities are still there even if you ‘t feel them now. Don’t worry.” I nodded, wanting to believe her. Their words comforted me but they didn’t ease all of my worries.
“For now, all you need to do is stay hydrated and get enough rest. It’s advisable to shift and stay out in the woods for a while so your wolf’s natural healing can kick in and save you from having to deal with the fever.”
“Thank you.” I stood intending to see them out of the room at least, but once my feet touched the ground, the ground slipped out from under me and the world went pitch black.
