Chapter 50

My eyes fluttered open, the remnants of the s**id dream clinging to me like a bad odour. A bitter taste settled in my mouth. as I thought about it again. How could I dream about the likes ofhim, after what he did to me?! After what he said to me?!© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.

Why would I let him do such despicable things to me? I heard dreams were the manifestation of your sub consciousness or you just had a really high fever. I wanted to believe that it was a lever because why the hell would I allow a monster like him entrance into my freaking subconscious?!

I placed the back of my hand on my forehead and tried to feel for a fever and I was warm. That had to be it. It could not be anything else. That mate bond has got nothing on me. I was not that shameless to have a w***m about a man that harshly rejected me as his mate. There were levels to my shamelessness and this dream was a new level that I was yet to unlock.

In the dream. Aston had held me tenderly, his lips pressing softly against any head as he placed a delicate crown upon it. (Something that I was aware was never going to happen in real life.)

The stark contrast between the gentleness of the dream and the harsh reality of our relationship left me reeling. Aston was not one to gently place a frown on my head, he was one to stand me in the head with the f**g crown and giggle while I bled, then proceed to feed my remains to wild animals while he watched them devour me until I was nothing but bones. He would then take those bones and asked them to be used to make a corset for his chosen mate; Mara.

That **h tempest of emotions churned within me. I despised Aston for the wicked way he treated me, but the dream had evoked a stupid sense of longing within me that I couldn’t deny, at least not to myself. The same way I felt like kissing him when he lowered in front of me. The same sick sense of lust that I felt towards him was driving me insane.

It felt like ever since I got a taste of him. I seemed to want more and being that close to him was like dangling cheese in front of a hungry mouse.

A sudden knock at the door interrupted my stupid thoughts and I opened the door cautiously. That has kind of been how it was since I got kidnapped. I jolted awake at the sound of footsteps. I couldn’t open my windows, I investigated every little noise that I heard and I was not at peace until I knew where it was coming from. I had no idea when I was finally going to get over what happened or when it was going to feel normal again but what I knew was that I wanted to leave.

I met a tall lanky guard standing in front of my door with an attitude, I was about to slam the door in his face when he informed that Aston “desired” my presence. “You suck at your job and you ugly as hell.” I muttered under my breath and I was not sure if he heard but I heard him kick my door like he wanted to bring it down.

I wondered why Aston wanted to see me and whatever the reason might be that did not pertain to my freedom, I was definitely not interested in it.

My heart hammered in my chest as I made my way to his room, Aston was a insanely petty person and I could only imagine the sick things he would make me do if he felt offended.

I looked around as I made my way down the hallways that led to Aston’s room. There was no assurance that I couldn’t get kidnapped walking down the hallways, if I could get taken away from a garden that I had been to a million times, then the hallways wash not such a far stretch.

As I entered, my eyes immediately fell upon Mara, her gaze icy and unwelcoming, just the way I was used to. The tension in the room was almost visible, and I couldn’t help but mirror the scornful look she had on her face, my lip curling in a slight theer.

My eyes drifted to Aston wondering why he wanted me his room with his evil mate next to him and I was glad he did not waste time to speak. “Serve us break fast.” But his words I would have preferred he left unsaid.

Aston’s request for me to serve him breakfast felt like a cruel joke, a harsh reminder of my status as his slave. Nevertheless, I -obeyed, forcing myself to keep my emotions in check as I performed the menial task. I did not want any more drama than the one I was already facing.

Mara’s eyes bore into me the entire time, her suspicion and hostility almost tangible. She was too insecure for someone so beautiful, even though I hated to admit that she was beautiful.

Her phone vibrated and she quickly reached for it, giving Aston a small squeeze on the shoulder as she left room to take the

When Mara excused herself to answer a call, Aston seized the opportunity to remind me of my place as if I had forgotten that he has turned down my offer in letting me go.

“Don’t forget, Kira,” he said, his voice cold and unyielding, “you will continue to serve me as my slave.”

I couldn’t contain my frustration any longer. “You have hundreds of slaves, Aston,” I retorted, my voice laced with bitterness. “If you hate me so much, why not just end my life and be done with it?”

His response was like a slap in the face. “I’d much rather have you serve nie every day than grant you the mercy of death,” he said, his eyes locking onto mine in a battle of wills.

Our gaze lingered on each other until Mara’s return, at which point we both hastily looked away, making it look a little too suspicious. I didn’t miss the pointed look she shot in my direction, but I ignored it, refusing to give her the satisfaction of a reaction that she did not deserve.

Later in the excruciatingly long day, I found myself cornered by Mara in the kitchen. With only one maid left, as the other two had been locked up, Mara wasted no time in confronting me.

What’s happening between you and Aston?” she demanded, her voice dripping with suspicion. She acted all proud and confident, I wonder why she had no shame confronting me with her insecurities. I did see why she should feel threatened by me, seeing how I had already slept with her mate but I did not have the time or the will to tend to her whiny needs.

I decided to face her about her own actions instead, my anger giving me courage. “I know you were the one who tried to have me killed,” I said, my voice steady despite the fear that gripped me. “You only threw your maids under the bus to save yourself

I expected her to deny it the same way she denied it in front of Aston, to feign innocence like she had always done, but instead, she surprised me with a cold, calculating laugh.

“That’s right, Kira,” she admitted, her eyes narrowing. “I was indeed behind the assassination attempt. I’ll do anything to protect my place by Aston’s side, even if it means getting rid of you.”

Her words hung heavy in the air, a threat that sent a shiver down my spine. As we stared each other down, I knew that this was far from over. Mara’s determination to maintain her position, coupled with Aston’s unwavering resolve to keep me as his slave, painted a bleak picture of the future.

I knew they were both going to make my life a living hell and that drained all the energy that I had from me. The fact that the both of them were fighting me to keep each other by their sides like I was the only problem they bothered me.

They were fighting for the same purpose but that plans were the exact opposite. I wished that they would just talk to each other about me and go with Mara’s plan to kick me out of the palace, without trying to killine. I was going to promise never to bother again. They could from me at the end of the earth if they wanted. Anywhere was fine, as far as I did not have to see both of them again.
