Chapter 71
That all made sense, the reason why they had been working tirelessly was because the company was at the verge of bankruptcy and then the so called Williams had stolen what could be used to remedy the situation if there was a possibility to begin with.
Now this all made sense, there was another reason as to why she was asked to check the files.
Aside from the stuffs traced to the Williams guy, something else was happening.
“But why id Paxton not tell her this and if Jaxton knew too why had he not told her?” she asked no one in particular.
There was a possibility of saving the company from this bankruptcy as they would have been able to sell shares and even get into partnership.
She thought if these possibilities because she had become too familiar with the company and her job was like her first child and she hoped that she could be able to savage the situation.
As she stood ther thinking she felt an arm on her body andit was Jaxton.
“Let’s go home pumpkin and tomorrow is a Sunday we can still have our surprise” he said but his smile was not as genuine as she hoped out would be.
She felt the urge to ask him about the bankruptcy she heard them talking about.
She felt if she did ask him he would have assumed she had been eavesdropping and maybe it was just okay if he told her himself.
Maybe they didn’t want to alarm the employees because that would have meant they would have to lay off some workers and it would be sad to see people who had worked their ass off for the company be laid off just like that.
She suddenly felt bad for Paxton, Jaxton was also a shareholder of he company but he was not as involved in it as Paxton was so she didn’t think he would understand what sentimental value it was that Paxton had for the company.
The drive back home was quiet as everyone was in their thoughts.
They had just found the first thief meaning the other thief had to be at the company and as luck would have it she had noticed William look towards another worker, maybe he was involved in the other missing fund too.
She was going to do her findings by herself.
“Hello” Jaxton said into the phone as he took a turn and then answered a phone call.
“What the fuck do you mean the funds just began to drop yet again?” he asked as he stopped the car abruptly and the tires screech waking her up from her daydream.
“I can’t believe this, that William guy should know more than he is letting on I thought Steven had somehow retrieved some of the funds?” he said in a panic.
“What? Does that mean there is another mole at the company?” he asked.
“Okay fine we would work out something and yes I would let Sydney know what the plan is” he said and then drop the call.
After explaining everything yet again to Sydney she vowed silently to work their ass off for the betterment of the company.
“I don’t think we should let the employees know about this other development” she said.
“Why not?” Jaxton asked almost suspecting her.
“Because if we tell them the culprit might begin to hide his or her tracks, but if we don’t tell anyone we would be able to trace and catch them unawares since they would think we know nothing about the recent development” she explained and it kind of made sense to Jaxton.
“Yea you are super right with that” Jaxton reasoned. Well I’ll tell Paxton when I get home tonight” he said.
“This night? I thought you’d gimme some sugar?” she said pouting and Jaxton felt the urge to bend her there and then on her porch and make love to her but he couldn’t, the matter at hand needed urgent attendance and he knew she would understand.
“Yea right you have to go to the house so you and Paxton can come to an agreement yea?” she asked and just as he had thought she understood him.
The weekend passed and yet again no outing and this was Tuesday morning.
Since everyone had been given Monday off because of the incident of Saturday.
When she entered the office she realized everyone was buy but not as they were on Saturday, it dawned on her they had not been told what was happening just as she had proposed.
She only knew they were at a board meeting when she asked the secretary out of Paxton’s office and she told her he was in with the Board of Directors.
She hoped all would be fine and well at the end of the meeting anyways.
As for William he had still yet to expose his other friends, he seemed to love being in custody for the crime he was accused of because he had been interrogated and even asked to say the name but he was hell bent on saying he was doing it on his own.
When Paxton left the board room he came out he looked a mess.
He looked dehydrated and two nights of not being at the office had dealt with him he looked pale and the smile had left his face.
Sydney felt extremely sorry for him at the moment.
She wished she could share the burden with him but how could she?
“Hey Paxton, is there anything I would need to do right now?” she asked hoping he would tell her what she could do.
“Yes, you would have to follow me for a business meeting right now I hope we would be able to settle everything” he said but he didn’t hold any confidence or faith in those words of his.
“Okay sir” Sydney responded as he went to his office and gulped down the cup of coffee on his desk which she assumed must have been cold by the way he made his face.Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
