Chapter 43
Wha
on earth was this? Wasn't the constant scheming and backstabbing exhausting?
"You have your skills. Without Castiel, you'll only thrive more. A woman doesn't have to rely on her husband; she is the greatest support for herself," Billie said.
"Yeah." Niamh nodded in agreement.
She completely resonated with Billie's words. Especially seeing Billie's life over the years, Niamh couldn't help but feel envious.
Billie lived a life without the complications of in-laws or the pressure of when her belly should show.
Her only concerns were winning cases for her clients and safeguarding their interests. During vacations, she'd jet off abroad to ski, bask in the sun by the beach, or explore canyons..
She lived a life that many women could only dream of.
Niamh never knew which hospital Macy and Renee were at. Billie took her to the nearest one. It was late, and the doctor wasn't too pleased at first.
But upon hearing it was for a domestic abuse report, their eyes filled with a deep-seated disdain for family violence, and they quickly examined Niamh. They even slightly exaggerated the severity of the injuries in the report.
As Niamh collected the report, the doctor looked at her and said, "There's no one in this world you can't live without. Good luck."
"Thank you," Niamh replied, turning to leave when the doctor called after her. "You seem familiar. Have we met?"
"I rarely get sick. I must just look like someone else," Niamh threw over her shoulder as she hurried away. But she knew the doctor wasn't wrong.
Lately, she had been all over the trending lists, whether for her connection to Simon or being compared to Macy.
It was no wonder people were starting to recognize her.Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
Billie was just waiting outside. She stood up when she saw Niamh walking out. "How is it?"
"All good. Let's go."
"Give it to me," Billie said, holding her hand out. As Niamh's divorce lawyer, she needed these pieces of evidence immediately.
Niamh handed over the report, and Billie was about to put it in her bag when they heard someone speak.
"Why are you here?" Castiel's voice cut through the hallway, filled with hostility.
He had come that night to bring Niamh to apologize to Macy. She didn't want to come to the hospital, but he found her here for some reason. Castiel walked toward them, each step heavy with a sense of looming threat. It was as though every step crushed the heart beneath it.
Billie quickly shoved the report into her bag and pulled Niamh's hand. "Let's go!"
She was eager to avoid Castiel as much as Niamh was. To think that once, she thought that with Castiel's protection, Niamh had some advantage in the Jamison family. But now...
Niamh followed Billie, intent on avoiding any further confrontation with Castiel. But the next moment, a strong grip seized her wrist.
"Trying to run?" His voice was low.
"Please, let go," Niamh said.
"What, scared I'll bite?"
"I said, let go!" Niamh's voice grew sharper as she tried to shake off his grip, but Castiel's hand remained firmly around her wrist, showing no sign of loosening.
Niamh glanced at the hand gripping her wrist, knowing that Castiel wasn't about to let go. With a sense of urgency, she turned to Billie and said, "Billie, go wait for me in the car.* "Niamh."
""Go!" Niamh's tone was stern.
This made Billie understand her intention. She released Niamh's hand reluctantly and gave Castiel an unfriendly look before she left.
Niamh's eyes remained cold as she faced Castiel, no longer holding back her disdain. "What was that you asked Billie about earlier?" Castiel asked before she said anything.
