Chapter 1388 Take You Out For A Meal
In reality, Josie couldn't quite recall if Dexter had ever crossed any boundaries. He was well-versed in international law, so even if he had, he would have handled it cleanly, leaving no troubles behind. The staff member asked a few more questions, but Josie had no idea about any of them.
The best protection Dexter had for her was not telling her anything.
Perhaps they had done their research in advance and truly couldn't find anything suspicious. They didn't give her a hard time.
Josie escorted them to the door. Before leaving, the leader said, "Please contact us anytime if you recall any details."
She gave a slight nod.
"Don't worry. I've had nothing to do with him for a long time. If there's anyone who would most desire his downfall, it would be me."
The other party looked at her with an amused expression. "You hate him that much? From what I know, you two had a peaceful divorce. He spent two years searching for you after you left." Leaning against the conference room door, Josie said, "If it was a peaceful divorce, why would I have made it impossible for him to find me for two years?"
Her response was rather self-explanatory.
After they left, Queenie cautiously approached. "Are you okay? They said they were from the investigation team. What were they investigating?"
News about Dexter's affairs had not yet been made public, so Josie said, "I forgot to pay the taxes for the last project. They just came to inquire about it.”
Queenie's eyes widened. She was filled with a sense of disbelief yet it seemed oddly plausible.
"Did you make up for it? Evading taxes these days is considered a serious violation of the law."
"I did."
Though the questioning had ended, Josie could clearly sense that someone was still keeping a watchful eye on her.
When Morgan found her, she was working overtime in a completely empty office.
By a stroke of bad luck, the elevator experienced a power failure. He had to make his way up from the pitch-black stairwell, illuminating his path with his phone's flashlight, all the while mentally voicing his frustrations.
Only the lamp on her desk was lit, casting a clear glow on her immaculate face.

that she didn't notice anyone entering the room. When Morgan
tapped her shoulder, she almost
jumped up and overturned the table.
It startled him as well. He leaned against the back table to catch his breath.
Choked with lingering fear, Josie stammered, "What are you doing? Are you trying to scare me to death..."
"Who's scaring who? I'm about to have a heart attack."
Several minutes had passed before the two of them managed to regain their composure. With a hint of annoyance, Josie closed herdaptop. "What are you doing here?
Morgan thrust his wristwatch toward her. "Look at the time. I've called you over a dozen times and you didn't pick up."
"Ten past nine."
Without hesitation, Morgan pulled her to her feet and casually picked up her bag in the process. "Come on, I'll take you out for a meal."
Josie stumbled in her steps as she was led away. "I can eat by myself! I don't need you to take me."
"Be content, will you? Dexter is under investigation. I'm the only one willing to dine with you."
Morgan's voice wafted over, leaving Josie stunned. She stared at the back of his head, uncertain how much he knew, but she became more willing to go with him.
Upon reaching the entrance of the stairwell, Josie realized that there had been a power outage. She used her phone to light the way, asking, "Did you just climb all the way up here?"
Her office was on the eighth floor.
"What do you think? I can't exactly fly, can I?"
She couldn't help but laugh. "Making you climb the stairs is indeed quite amusing."
Morgan swiped at her hand, but she quickly dodged it.
Once they reached the ground floor, they were a bit winded. Josie hadn't been hungry initially, but after all that exertion, she was famished. Morgan opened the car door and let her get in.
Josie gave him a glance, ultimately choosing to sit in the back seat. It was only after getting in that she realized another person was sitting inside.
