Underneath the pale moonlight that pierced through the window, Nelly lay in peaceful slumber, her body glowing with an ethereal silver hue. Alpha Kilian, the formidable Alpha of the pack, silently approached her bedside. He could not help but be captivated by her radiant presence.
He knelt down beside her, his eyes fixated on her sleeping form. Despite the passing years and the burden of motherhood, there was no trace of weariness on her face. Her skin remained porcelain white and her appearance as youthful as a woman in her prime.
His mind wandered back to the night they had shared years ago, when they had been lost in the intoxicated haze of their desires. She had slumbered then, just as she did now. But something had changed.
Though her features and demeanor were unchanged, Alpha Kilian sensed a difference, an intangible shift in the air. Tentatively, he reached out to touch her face and brush his fingertips against her lips. Yet, in that moment of realization, his hand froze in mid-air, suspended by an unspoken boundary.
Suddenly, a sharp rap at the door broke the silent night. He cast a wary glance towards the entrance, but no other movement followed the knock. Looking back at Nelly, he saw that she remained undisturbed, still immersed in her peaceful slumber.
A frown etched itself onto his brow, unsure whether to feel relieved or disappointed by her lack of vigilance. With a heavy sigh, he rose to his feet and left the room.
As he opened the door, he came face to face with Thalia, leaning nonchalantly against the wall with a lollipop dangling from her mouth. Her eyes met his, and she extended her hand in greeting. “Hello, it seems we meet again,” she said.
Alpha Kilian narrowed his gaze at her. “You again?”
A faint smile graced Thalia’s lips, making her appear as the most enchanting creature he had ever encountered. “Yes, indeed,” she replied. “I have something to tell you.”
Baffled, Alpha Kilian glanced back at Nelly, ensuring she remained undisturbed, before softly closing the door behind him. There was an unsettling feeling in the air, and he couldn’t shake the suspicion that something was amiss.
Curiosity burning within him, he questioned Thalia, “What is it that you wish to discuss?”
Her lips glistened as she licked them nervously. “First, let me clarify my position. I am not the villain here, at least not to her,” Thalia gestured towards Nelly’s room.
Alpha Kilian observed her in silence, a flicker of belief in his eyes. She had stood guard outside Nelly’s door, after all.
Unphased by his silence, Thalia continued, “I’ve spread the news of her presence here. Those who seek to harm her will undoubtedly make their move within the next two days. We… I had intended to use this opportunity to apprehend them. But with you here… do you understand what I’m implying?”
“Who are you?” Alpha Kilian’s voice carried a note of suspicion.
Shaking her head, Thalia replied, “That’s inconsequential.”
Alpha Kilian mulled over her response, sensing there was more to her story. “Why should I trust you?”
Thalia shrugged nonchalantly, her eyes darting towards the surveillance camera. “Suit yourself. I’ve done my part. Whoever comes for her in the next two days will face more than they bargained for,” she said, giving him a pointed look. “That’s all I wanted to say. Goodbye.” With that, she raised her hand towards the camera in a mocking farewell before turning to leave.
A sudden thought crossed Alpha Kilian’s mind, causing him to speak up. “What if… we work together?”Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
Thalia froze, her body tensing as she slowly turned to face him. “Work together? How?”
A lopsided grin spread across Alpha Kilian’s face. “I didn’t station anyone here because I intended to confront this threat myself. But, since our objectives align, why not capture this person together?”
Thalia studied Alpha Kilian’s expression, pondering whether he spoke the truth. In that moment, a voice crackled in her earpiece. Tony, her partner, relayed his thoughts, “I think it’s worth considering.”
However, Thalia’s response was immediate and forceful. “No!” she exclaimed, her head tilted defiantly.
Alpha Kilian’s eyes darted towards the earpiece she wore, suspicion evident on his face. He realized there was someone pulling the strings from the shadows.
Sensing his doubt, Thalia quickly composed herself. “It’s unnecessary. Since you have a plan, I’ll leave it in your capable hands. After all, with the great Mr. Morris on the case, my assistance is superfluous.” She attempted to mask her unease with a sly smile, thinking her rejection was a clever move.
But Alpha Kilian’s smug smirk contradicted her assumption. “You seem to know me quite well,” he commented.
“Rumors in the underworld,” Thalia said casually.
“The underworld?” Alpha Kilian’s inquiry dripped with curiosity. “It appears you have more in common with me than I initially thought.”
Thalia’s surprise was evident as she realized she had fallen into his trap. He had never intended to collaborate; it was all a ruse from the beginning.
Fear coiled within her as she looked up at the imposing Alpha before her. She finally comprehended why others warned of his cunning and demanded constant vigilance when crossing paths with Alpha Kilian.
Angry at herself for her lapse in judgment, Thalia decided it was best to leave. “Of course, as the queen of the underworld, I bid you farewell!” With those parting words, she turned on her heel and left, her suave demeanor marred by frustration.
Alpha Kilian watched her receding figure before turning his attention back to the ward. Deep within him, a storm of emotions raged, unsettled by the mysteries surrounding Nelly. Who was she truly? How had she concealed her past and enlisted the protection of the underworld? And most importantly-what had he missed about her during the time they had been apart?
With a cold glint in his eyes, Alpha Kilian re-entered the room, his thoughts consumed by an indiscernible darkness. As he stared at Nelly’s form, an unspoken determination flickered within him. He would uncover the truth, no matter the cost.
