Her words dripped with a deliberate distance, pushing him away further into the darkness.
The theater of laughter and camaraderie was left behind, forgotten, as he turned towards her, met only with a chilling stare.
“No,” Alpha Kilian retorted, his voice laced with authority.
Nelly returned to her seat by the hospital bed, her gaze fixed squarely on him. “So, why are you here?” she asked, her words like a venomous dagger.
With just a few words, she could ignite the flames of his anger.
“Do I need a reason to visit a patient?” Alpha Kilian growled under his breath, his teeth clenched.
Nelly sneered mockingly, her smile dripping with disdain. “Alpha Morris, no gifts? Is this your idea of sincerity, or is this just another example of your true character?”
Glancing at the table laden with flowers, fruit, and food, he approached. “What? Are these things what really matter to you?”
Nelly remained silent, her eyes fixing him with a gaze that demanded he figure it out for himself.
Truthfully, she couldn’t care less about those material possessions.
But she relished the opportunity to criticize him, to make him feel small.
Alpha Kilian nodded in understanding.
In his haste, his only thought was her safety, failing to think beyond that.
He retrieved his phone from his pocket, sent a message, and then put it away again.
Nelly remained silent, uninterested in his actions.
An excruciating half-hour passed.
The ward overflowed with flowers, adorning every surface.
The sweet scent of blooms filled the air, assaulting senses with its overwhelming presence.
Alpha Kilian nodded with satisfaction, a smug smile playing on his lips. He turned to Nelly, who sat upon the bed. “What do you think? Do you like it?”
Nelly was speechless, unable to respond.
“Are you holding a funeral for me, perhaps?” she quipped.
The carefully arranged flowers fit the setting all too well.
Alpha Kilian furrowed his brow in confusion. “Didn’t you say you liked them?”
Nelly took a deep breath, her gaze shifting elsewhere.
All she truly desired was some peace and quiet.
Alpha Kilian strode towards her, his eyes locked onto her own. “I rushed here out of concern for your safety. I didn’t think beyond that. If you enjoy flowers, I’ll bring them next time I visit.”
He cares for me?
Nelly’s disbelief washed over her as she turned to him, her eyes wide. “Alpha Morris, are you ill? Have you mistaken me for someone else?”
Tension filled the air in an instant as she uttered those words.
Alpha Kilian squinted his eyes, his voice deep and raspy. “Nelly, I know exactly who I’m speaking to!”
Nelly smirked. “Then… are you experiencing some kind of fit?”
Alpha Kilian was exasperated. Nelly had a way of incensing him with just a string of words.
He chuckled lightly, his gaze unwavering. “Nelly, am I truly that kind of person in your eyes?”This material belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.
Nelly nodded, unsurprised. “Yes. You have done things far worse. Don’t you even know yourself?”
Alpha Kilian was at a loss for words.
After a moment, he defended himself. “You speak of the past.”
“I fail to see any difference,” Nelly stated matter-of-factly.
“Because you don’t understand me.”
“Sometimes, one chance at understanding is all we need,” Nelly coldly retorted, standing her ground.
Alpha Kilian narrowed his eyes, staring her down. “Oh, really? Then why do you want to be discharged?”
Nelly froze, her gaze fixed on him. “Who told you that?”
“Does it matter?”
Nelly looked at him, unaffected. “No, it doesn’t. Why would I want to leave the hospital because of you?”
Alpha Kilian pursed his lips, but the answer to her question was painfully evident.
Nelly smiled. “Alpha Morris, when did you become so self-absorbed?”
Alpha Kilian’s eyes grew darker. His lips curled upwards, and he asked, “Am I? Then tell me, why do you want to be discharged?”
“It’s my own reasons, and it has nothing to do with you.”
Clearly, Alpha Kilian didn’t believe her.
But Nelly couldn’t care less about his belief.
“Lara means nothing more than a friend to me,” Alpha Kilian abruptly declared, his gaze fixed on her.
Nelly appeared stunned. “You don’t need to explain your relationships to me.”
“I just don’t want you to misunderstand.”
“Does it matter?”
“Of course!”
“Why?”
“Because…”
Alpha Kilian was about to respond, but the words caught in his throat.
He looked at her, his gaze turning serious.
Nelly looked back at him, meeting his gaze in silent confrontation.
Time seemed to pause in that moment, and Nelly could almost hear the pounding of Alpha Kilian’s heart.
Each thump seemed to hold a secret, whispering its words to her.
No one knows how much time passed. Eventually, Alpha Kilian broke their gaze and coldly spoke, “There is no specific reason. I just wanted to tell you the truth.”
Nelly chuckled sarcastically.
For all her small, delicate appearance, she was a prickly rose.
Alpha Kilian admitted defeat in understanding her.
He turned and left the room. “I’m going outside for a smoke.”
Once his figure was out of sight, Nelly no longer wished to concern herself with him. She lay down and promptly fell asleep.
Meanwhile, Tony and Thalia returned to the hospital after their meal. Both remained in the car, watching the live surveillance footage of the corridor.
“We can’t proceed with our plan if he’s here every day!” Thalia complained, her eyes fixed on Alpha Kilian, captured by the camera feed.
Tony frowned, pondering the situation.
At the moment, he had no way of directly confronting Alpha Kilian, to make him aware of their dilemma.
Thalia’s lips curled into a smile as she continued to watch the live footage. “You know, besides being perfect, he even looks handsome while smoking. It’s as if that cigarette has been elevated in his hands. He makes me want to smoke right now.”
Tony looked at her, his eyes asking, “Are you crazy?”
Thalia paid him no mind, her gaze still focused on the screen. “I’ll bet you a hundred. He’s interested in your mother.”
