Branch Seventy Two
“I don’t want you to get the wrong idea. I have no interest in going with you to Aurora Haven. I even have to stay back to set up my restaurant so….” Jessica trailed off when she saw his expression.
She did not want him assuming as he had done before that she was plotting with Dawson for any reason he thought. She hated traveling probably because she did not have the chance to travel but she would not want to go especially since she had seen his reaction earlier.
“Let’s go convince him that we would go,” Xavier said ignoring her first statement.
He did not want her to go but if that was what it took for Dawson to rest back then he would have to do it.
“Aren’t you listening to me?” Jessica said stopping him in his tracks.
“Does what we want matter now? Are we going to allow him to travel six hours across because of us?” Xavier asked his voice almost in a shout.
Jessica then remembered the reason why she should not like this man in front of her. Why did she even think that they would be friends? He could never stop being who he was. He was such a big jerk.
“I just want you not to misunderstand what I mean,” Jessica said not moving.
“I have gotten what you said can we go now?” Xavier said walking ahead.
Jessica swallowed her pride to follow him. She has no choice at the moment but to go on that trip.
“Papa, we would go,” Xavier said stopping Dawson before he could go on the ramp leading to the next floor.
Dawson smiled and then pulled the smile off his face.
“Take me back down,” Dawson said to Gilbert.
“Okay, you need to be there in three days. Gilbert call Ethan and tell him my grandson and wife would be coming instead of me”
“So no more talks of resuming back to work again,” Xavier said.
“Yes sir” Dawson responded with a salute.
“Hurry along now. I don’t want you to be late for your event” Dawson added before signaling Gilbert to push him out of the place.
Jessica waited for Dawson to be up the stairs before she turned around to leave. She entered the room and paced around. Why did she have expectations of Xavier? Why was she disappointed at his reaction?
Wasn’t it normal that he would not want her to tag along? Why did it hurt her more than she thought it would?
‘Let’s get ready. You already told Alicia that you would be there so there is no reason that you should disappoint’ she whispered to herself and went into the closet.
She put on one of the glamorous dresses she had gotten from the Gates fashion store. She came out of the closet hoping to catch Angel so she could help her with her zipper.
Xavier was standing there with his shirt button undone.
“Are you done with the room?” Xavier said pointing to the closet door and avoiding eye contact.
He hated that she saw his reaction and felt guilty. How could he dare look her in the eye?
“Errm I am but I need help. Where is Angel?” she asked making sure her back did not go exposed to him.
“What is it I might be able to help you”
“My zipper. I need it done” she said.
Xavier shifted uncomfortably on his feet. He needed to do something nice to redeem himself. They were getting along. He just had to ruin it.
“I would help you with that, ” he said moving slowly towards her.
Having him help out with her zipper was strange to both of them. Jessica stood stiff like a monument that was put in place.
“All done,” Xavier said as he took some steps backward.
“Thank you,” she said awkwardly and moved a step forward before turning to him.
“I would quickly take a shower and change up and then we can go,” Xavier told her.
“Okay,” she nodded in agreement. She did not have anything against it. If not she had promised Alicia maybe she would have escaped the whole scene and stayed home all day laying down.
“I would go downstairs and ensure that a meal is prepared for Dawson’s dinner” she called after him.
She went downstairs and entered the kitchen. Angel’s eyes fell on her and she whistled unconsciously.
“How rude of you” Roselle chastised her.
“What did she do that was so rude, that you had to scold her so much?” Jessica asked.
She liked that at least someone in the house had appreciated her beauty even though Xavier was the first to see her in that dress all dolled up he still did not bother to offer her a compliment.
“How dare she whistles at the lady of the house. It is unacceptable” Roselle explained.
“At least she thought I looked good and wanted to express it. Ensure that she doesn’t get a punishment whatever it might be concerning this matter” Jessica replied.
“Yes young lady” Roselle responded.
“Help me prepare a meal for Dawson,” Jessica said entering the kitchen.
Angel and Roselle rushed to stand in front of her.
“What is it?” she asked looking at them confused.
“We can not allow you inside with your makeup and dress, please go wait in the living room,” Roselle said to which Angel nodded her head.
“But Dawson needs to eat,” Jessica said protesting.
“I would handle it. He already told me to prepare an elaborate dinner for him because he would not be able to go to the event” Roselle explained.
“I can help out,” she said trying to maneuver her way through them. They shifted together in time to stop her.Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“No way young lady. If you cook with all that makeup then you would ruin it” Angel said making an x sign with her hand.
Jessica sighed she knew there was no way she was winning that argument. She has to just do what they want. She turned on her heels and left.
“Leslie?” Jessica says when she saw a figure approaching her. “What are you doing here?” she added in a question.
“I came to help you out but I see you are all dressed with minimalist makeup,” Leslie said painting behind her to see a train of girls entering.
Jessica’s eyes widen as she saw the makeup artist and her apprentice. “What is this?”
“My poly to make you stronger and the most beautiful woman at that party” Leslie explained pulling her hand to the living room.
“I think I like my makeup this way, “Jessica told her.
“Trust me it would be better if we touch it up”
