Chapter 76
Chapter 76
“Your hand!” Feeling the rough skin, Yoel flipped her hand over in shock. “Why does a precious lady like you have so many callouses on her hand?”
The palm of her hand was completely different from the back of her hand,
The back of her hands looked as if they belonged to a precious lady, as they were fair and delicate with long and slender fingers; but the palms of her hands were covered in thick calluses, especially around her fingertips.
“It is no wonder Jace thought you were a country girl.” Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
Turing over her hands, Yoel looked as if he had found a rare object.
Frowning, Sage took back her hands and said, “So what if I’m a country girl? Who says that city girls are not allowed to have calluses on their hands? I’m sure you have more callouses than I do.”
Yoel extended his large hands so that she might see them. “I trained with a gun almost every day when I served the military. How can you compare yourself to me?”
At the mention of this, Sage was suddenly reminded of Jace who also had palms covered in callouses.
“Hey, I’ll get jealous too if you think about another man in front of me,” complained Yoel.
Sage looked up. “How did you,”
She gnawed her lips.
“How did I know that you were thinking about another man?”
Before she could finish her sentence, Yoel pulled into a half-smile and said, “Your love for Jace is all over your face. Only Jace is blind and insensitive enough to not notice it, but you can’t hide it from me.”
Sage simply rolled her eyes at him.
“To be fair, Jace is not the only one who is curious, I am too. Why did you choose to hide your identity, and marry him?”
Yoel took a sideways glance at Sage. The golden rays of the sun illuminated her face, casting her in gold. Yoel thought her to be absolutely stunning at this moment.
Sage stopped in her tracks and glared at him. “Are you here to work or gossip?”
“There’s no conflict between them.” Yoel shrugged.
Walking forward, Sage replied, “It’s in the past, and there’s nothing to talk about. There’s no need for Jace to know, and there is no need for you to know either.”
Running to catch up to Sage, Yoel bumped his shoulder lightly against Sage. “But I really want to know.”
Glaring at him, Sage hissed, “Haven’t you heard that curiosity killed the cat?”
Yoel felt chills running down his spine.
Pulling into a smile, he announced, “I suddenly have a bad feeling.”
Seeing how he was suddenly acting all serious, Sage frowned. “What bad feeling?”
“If both of us really got married, you might control me completely.”
Sage was speechless.
She wondered if Yoel was delusional.
Ignoring him, Sage flipped through the documents in her hand to understand the construction progress.
Yoel chased up to her and said, “I’m being serious. I’m drawn most to mysterious girls. They make me want to explore them. If things are truly over between you and Jace, you might want to consider becoming my girlfriend.”
With her eyes still fixed on the documents, Sage asked, “What do I get out of being your girlfriend?”
“There is, of course, a lot that I can give. I’ve always been generous when it comes to pampering my girl. I will give you whatever it i s that you want. Even if you want a star from the sky, I’ll do whatever it takes to get one for you.”
Sage scoffed. “I don’t need money and love, nor do I need stars. What you can offer is all worthless to me.”
With his hands on his heart, Yoel said, “Ouch, that hurts.”
“Give up already.” Sage placed the documents in his hands.
Holding the documents, Yoel ran after her again, unwilling to give up. “Putting aside what I can offer you. You can always take this chance to get back at Jace. Don’t you want to make your ex-husband drown in feelings of regret?” Sage froze and stopped in her tracks.
