My Mute Wife

Chapter 43 The Third Option

Alan rarely showed his face in front of people, but the guests at the Mitchell family’s birthday banquet all relied on the rumored ugly scar to recognize him at a glance.

“This is Alan?”

“He doesn’t seem as scary as the legends.”

“Yeah, he seems to have good terms with Lexie.”

There was a lot of chatter in the banquet hall, but thanks to the sound of music as a cover, plus the fact that someone had already taken the initiative to go up and say hello to Alan, the scene was instantly lively.

Many people handed business cards to Alan, and Lexie habitually wanted to pull out her hand to leave first, but her hand was pressed, and she met Alan’s calm and powerful gaze.

She froze for a moment, listening to the compliments of those around her, and when she looked up again, she was already smiling decently towards the crowd that had flocked over.

Since she was a child, she had hardly ever been surrounded by so many people, and for the past ten years or so, her life had been as quiet as her mute disease, without a single movement, and she was always the one with the least presence at the various parties of the Mitchell family.

Marrying Alan seemed to be a real life turnaround.

“Edith, your sister and your cousin-in-law seem like they’re getting along quite well.”

The words of her best friend fell on Edith’s ears, and her already grim face instantly turned pale, “It’s just a show, he can’t cold-shoulder her in front of so many people.”

Saying that, Edith walked straight towards Alan. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

“Alan.”

Lexie was accompanying Alan and greeting the crowd and they were interrupted by Edith’s voice.

“Alan, why are you so late? My sister came by herself just now, I thought you weren’t coming.”

As if Edith didn’t see Lexie next to her, she only focused on talking to Alan.

Anyone could hear her deliberate emphasis on the words Lexie ‘came by herself’.

Alan’s tone was light, “There’s something going on at the company, so I had the driver send Lexie over first, did I miss anything?”

Edith blushed, glanced at Lexie, and said sarcastically, “No, did my sister say something to you?”

Alan didn’t answer, his gaze falling on Edith’s neck, “The necklace is good on you.”

The topic changed quickly, the crowd was unsure, only Edith’s eyes lit up, she was shy, touching the diamond necklace on her neck and not speaking.

This was the necklace Alan had given her earlier when he accompanied Lexie back home.

“Mr. Peter is here.”

Someone shouted, the eyes of the crowd focused on the door on the other side of the banquet as Peter and a few cousins from the Mitchell family entered the banquet hall talking and laughing, attracting the attention of the crowd.

“Alan, let’s go and wish Dad a happy birthday!”

Edith directly pulled Alan and left, while Alan didn’t refuse, leaving Lexie where she was.

Lexie froze for a moment, an inexplicable loss spreading through her heart as Alan’s arm drew away from her hand.

Anyone would love a vivid and delicate woman, right?

Regardless of Edith’s private character, at the very least, she appeared to be a delightful person on the surface.

Alan was pulled by Edith to Peter and when he looked back, he found Lexie had already walked away.

“Alan, come help me push the cake.”

“Okay.”

He returned to his senses and followed Edith to push the cake cart, but his mind seemed to stay where it was, and what was always swirling in his head was the look of the woman breaking down and suffering just now in the study, and he couldn’t calm down for a long time.

Lexie has no intention of joining in the fun, watching from a remote corner as Edith and Alan push the cake cart out to wish Peter a happy birthday, and she took a bottle of wine out on her own.

She didn’t usually drink, but she wanted to today.

The indignation in her chest almost exploded at the thought of her mother’s memorial tablet being locked up in such a cramped place by Peter.

Anyone could see that it wasn’t a Buddhist hall for the dead at all, with crimson chains and walls full of talismans, formations made on the souls of the dead, it was not for worship, but for suppression!

Was it true that her mother died in a car accident?

She was suddenly very suspicious of the matter.

It was late at night, and a full moon was reflected in the pool outside the room.

“Are you planning to drink too much and then play pathetic in front of Alan?”

A female voice came from the front, and Lexie’s hand carrying the wine bottle slightly clasped, looking up at the opposite side.

She didn’t know when Edith found her way here.

“Was I guessed right?” Edith clasped her arms, her twelve centimeter heels stepping on the floor tiles by the pool, her cold eyes high and proud, “I’m sorry I forgot you’re mute and can’t speak at all.”

Lexie gave her a look, [Do you need something?]

Why didn’t she pretend to be good in front of Alan and Peter, what was the point coming to her?

“Of course, I just had a drink with Alan. Alan is now talking to my dad about business, so I came out to for some fresh air and I have to go back later.”

After saying this, she snorted coldly, “Do you think anyone is as much of a loser as you are?”

Lexie clenched her fist, her gaze sinking slightly.

“What are you looking at? Did I say something wrong?” Edith looked around and said smugly, “You still dare to come here? Have you forgotten how you knocked your own head bloody here when you were a child?”

At the mention of her childhood, Lexie only felt a vague pain in her forehead.

Edith was no less vicious than she was now when she was a child. Back then, she pushed Lexie into the unfilled pool and Lexie fell on her head, which was still a nightmare for her.

“Do you think that if the same thing happens again as it did back then, would Alan defend me as much as Dad did?”

Edith’s gaze suddenly turned sinister.

Lexie’s face changed and she subconsciously took a step back.

“What are you panicking about?” Edith looked at her coldly and untied the necklace around her neck in front of her, “I will do what I should do at this age, do you think I’m still the same as when I was a child?”

As soon as the words were out of her mouth, there was a parabola and the necklace fell into the pool.

Lexie frowned at her, [What are you doing?]

“I’m giving you two choices now, one is to jump in and help me get my necklace back, or I tell Alan that you snatched my necklace and threw it in the pool, you have two choices, I’m still being lenient with you.”

Lexie’s face turned white as she questioned, [Why on earth are you doing this?]

Edith looked her up and down, “I still haven’t settled the score with you for what happened at the fish pond last time! Suddenly it comes to my mind, fair enough, right?”

Lexie clutched her fingers tightly.

Edith fell into the fish pond at Howard’s house, that was simply her own doing, but she now was putting the blame on Lexie.

If it was said that because her mother had died, Peter taking her and her grandma in was considered a favor, she put up with Edith’s bossiness, but what she saw in the Buddha Hall today had knocked that over.

[Edith, I think there’s a third option.]
