Chapter 30
Waking up to May sleeping peacefully beside him was everything he needed to make him happy.
A smile formed on Miles’s face as he watched her sleep like the queen she was. She looked so cute when sleeping and he could only admire her.
He finally got out of bed, pulled the duvet to cover her body, and left for the bathroom. After he washed his face, he left the room for the kitchen.
Miles heard the sound of water splashing in the kitchen as he descended the staircase minutes later, and he paused. Adelie was not around, so who could be in the kitchen?
He proceeded into the kitchen, regardless, and was stunned to find Miguel washing the dishes.
“It’s you? When did you get home?” Miles could still remember that he went to bed around 4am and Miguel was not home at that time, so how come he was there now?
“I returned at 4:30am,” Miguel glanced at him, and he nodded.
“You barely have time for yourself after you started working in the hospital. This career of yours is really killing and draining…” He paused, then pulled the refrigerator opened, and picked out a bottle of water.
“I can’t imagine myself doing that,” He uncapped the bottle and drank some water from it.
“This is the path I chose for myself. Why are you awake so early, by the way?” Miguel turned to him, and he shrugged.
“I want to make breakfast,” Mile replied as he dropped the bottle on the counter, and advanced toward the cabinet where food ingredients were kept.
“Oh… I guess sister-in-law is still asleep,” Miguel finally turned the tap off and wiped his hands clean with the towel on the sink.
“Hmm… She is tired and sleeping,” Miles replied as he picked out a few packs of noodles from the cabinet.
“You are making noodles?”
“Hmm…” Miles nodded.
“That reminds me… How is your new girlfriend?” He looked at Miguel and asked.
“New girlfriend? Who is…” Miguel paused and rolled his eyes when the realization dawned on him who his brother was referring to.
“She is not my girlfriend. She is just my colleague at work,” Miguel emphasized on the ‘colleague’.
“Wait! You two work together?” He pulled a surprised expression, and Miguel rolled his eyes. Maybe he shouldn’t have mentioned that.
“What’s wrong with working together?” Miguel mumbled as he leaned against the counter.
“I think she likes you…” He paused, then turned to him. “Why don’t you give her a chance? I’m sure you’ll make great couples, trust me,”
“Sorry to disappoint you, but the feeling is not mutual,” Miguel smirked at him, but even with the denial, he wasn’t so foolish not to see through his brother that he was lying.
“I bet you like her a bit,” He teased Miguel.
“Whatever!”
“I think you should confess to sister-in-law. Why not tell her you like her?” Miguel suggested, trying to change the topic.
“I don’t know…” He shrugged and sighed briefly before he continued, “I’m trying to take my time to do this. I can’t stand getting rejected later,”
Miguel nodded affirmatively. Of course, he knew how painful it felt to be rejected by the one you love, so he could only agree with his brother.
“We haven’t spent proper time together since you came back. Mind going out for a walk tonight?” He asked.
“I’ll be going to the hospital by 8am and will only be back probably by midnight. Maybe some other time,” Miguel explained to him, and he nodded.
Miguel’s ringing phone caught their attention, and since the phone was just beside Miles, he saw who the caller was.
“Your woman is calling,” He teased Miguel.
“She is not my woman. Stop calling her that,” Miguel warned him then grabbed his phone and walked out of the kitchen.

The sound of the footsteps behind him caught his attention, and he turned swiftly to find May standing. He almost flinched when he saw how horrible she was looking with her disheveled hair and black eyes.
“Good morning,” Her voice came out tiredly as she dragged herself toward the refrigerator.
“Good morning. You slept well, I guess,” Miles teased her. It was obvious that she slept well. The look on her face was a piece of evidence.
“Hmm,” She stood up after she got a bottle of water from the refrigerator.
“You look tired,” He uttered as he watched her gulp down some water.
“Hmm… I’m so tired,” She groaned tiredly as she sank her fingers into her hair and yawned.
“I’m already making breakfast. Why don’t you go shower, get changed, and come down for breakfast?” He suggested, and she opened her tired eyes.
“What are you making?” May looked and even sounded like a new person, and he was sure it was the effect of her sleep, but then, it was cute.
“I’m making spicy noodles and scrambled eggs,” Her face brightened with a smile as she opened her eyes wide.
“Really? It’s really spicy?” She blinked her eyes cutely, and he smiled.
“Why don’t you confirm it later?” He knitted his eyebrows together, and she slowly nodded.
“I will be back shortly,” She smiled and turned to leave when he spoke up.
“You should stay back at home today if you are tired,” She paused and looked at him. She pouted her lips and shook her head.
“I want to go,” She whined, and he scoffed as he turned his face away. His heart fluttered, and he swallowed nothing. She was acting so fucking cute and it felt like he was going to lose his mind around her. She was driving him crazy with everything she did.
“Fine… You can come with me,” She smiled brightly and squeaked excitedly before she finally walked out of the kitchen.
“She’s so damn cute,” He muttered as a smile formed on his lips…
