Chapter 30 Another misunderstanding
Your honor, you….”
“Objection my Lord. The prosecutor is…”
“Stay in your place, attorney Mike. Continue, prosecutor Janelle.”
“Just last week, this man was…..”
“I can’t believe you’re tryna twist the story right now. Seriously?. Your honor, absolutely everything she’s gonna say is a lie!”
Janelle sighed and touched her forehead.
This is going to be hectic.
“If you say one more word there, I will have no choice but to suspend you.”the judge said and turned to Mike.
Mike sat back on his chair.
“Are you sure we can win this cas e?”the accused said to his lawyer, Mike.
“I promise. We can”he sighed a reply back to him.
“He wasn’t drunk your honor. He looks absolutely fine in the video we got from the scene. He was fully conscious when he started harassing the girl, he…”
“I don’t trust your words. May i, at least see the video?”
“And that’s the last straw. It’s official now, Attorney Mike, you’re suspended from going to any hearing for one month. You should go back to your school to learn what etiquette are. You don’t just interrupt anyhow. You’re making the trial a bore for me with your several interruptions.”
“You don’t expect me to sit back while I watch my client falsely accused?”Mike protested.
“You’re a lawyer, infact, I didn’t expect you to sit back, I mean you’re a lawyer but then, the truth is obvious. Your client probably bribed you with some cool cash which shouldn’t be so. We Lawyers, Judges must be impartial. Just like Aristotle says, Everyone Is Equal before the law. The fact that you’re supporting him got me really furious. You should fight for Justice not to support criminal acts just because of an enticing offer. And also, your interruptions were way too much. I think we will have to end this here. We don’t hold any need for us to continue this, do we?.”
Janelle smiled with in herself and shook her head.
“I hereby sentenced the accused to life imprisonment. And also, I will debate on what to do with you, Attorney. For engaging in a cahoot against the wronged.”
He says and stood up then walked away.
“Wohoo!”Diana shout out to Janelle and Janelle smiled widely and winked.
This is actually good.
She finally put him behind the bars.
“Thank you so much, Prosecutor. I thought Justice doesn’t exist anymore but, but, you showed me there still exist just one Justice. I didn’t belief we can win against them. Oh thank you so much”Lydia, the lady that was accused said to Janelle in tears.Content provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
“Oh, come on. That’s my job. Fighting for the minority rights. The law is over everyone, my dear. I can’t just let him get away like that. And also, do not thank me, instead, I think you should thank God.”
“Awn, you’re sweet, miss.”
“Mrs,”Janelle corrected.
“Oh, sorry, Mrs… Mrs McFarland. So, can I get a hug from you?”
“I would love to also. Come on”Janelle pulled her in a tight hug.
Lydia busted into fresh tears.
Janelle rubbed her back.
The fact that the poor girl lost her virginity to that wretched old man is saddening…
Sometimes, Justice doesn’t heals everything.
“I will get you a better hospital, Lydia and please, I want you to forget all this.. please…”
They disengaged from the hug and Janelle smiled as she cleans her tears.
“You said your dream is to become a doctor”
“Yes”she sniffed in.
“Get well soon. I already got you admitted to a school”
“Wow?, really?, thank you so much, ma’am. Thank you, I really really love you. You’re just too nice”
“I blushed. I love you too, baby girl”she kissed her cheeks.
“Thanks for loving me even when the world turned against me”
“The world didn’t turn against you, my dear.. and even if it did, you are sure just sure to get it back with Justice!”
Lydia hugged her suddenly.
“You’re nice. I love you. I love you “she mumbled.
After that, Janelle told Lydia to visit her the next day and Lydia left not after thanking her again.
Janelle sighed with a smile.
She grabbed her files and looking up, she saw Lewis – the chief prosecutor.
He smiled.
“Hi”
She only nodded.
“Congratulations”
“Thanks”she says and started walking towards the exit.
“You’re really one kind of a Prosecutor. Prosecutors like you are rare. And when I say rare, I mean…. Rare.”
“Well, thanks”
“Come on, miss Janelle. You know what I want so why not give me?”
Janelle stopped walking and scoffed.
“Actually, I will very much love it if….”
The door threw opened and they both turned their gazes to the direction and saw George.
Janelle was surprised to see him there.
“You didn’t tell me you were coming..”was what she said.
“Did I interrupt you guys?”
“Yes actually, George.”Lewis replied.
“Have we met before?”George asked.
Janelle gulped down.
She isn’t liking this one bit.
She moved to George.
“Nope!. Why did you ask?”
“Well, it’s just kinda shock to hear you call me by my name. To and my wife must be pretty close”he gave a small smile.
“More than pretty close more precisely”Lewis smiled.
“Oh?, really, well good.”George nodded.
“Don’t listen to him, George, he….”
George looked at her and rubbed her neck.
“Bye”
He stepped out and turned back then started walking away.
Oh, no.
Janelle went after him.
“George”she called.
“George, come on..”
“George, please let me explain”
He stopped abruptly and turned to her.
“Explanation?. All I wanted was to come here to see the trial since it’s been last I came here to see you in the trial but then, but then, all I got was… was this?… wanting another man?”
